SUNY Broome Community College is a comprehensive community college located in the scenic Southern Tier of New York. The College has over 7,700 students annually, and services over 6,100 students per semester in Liberal Arts, Business & Professional Studies, Health Sciences, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs. An additional 1,600 students are served through the College's workforce and non-credit programs.

Job Description:

This appointment is provisional pending satisfactory completion of the Civil Service testing requirement.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Advises appointing authorities, the public and employees on various routine aspects of Civil Service Law, rules and procedures.
  • Reviews applications for recruitment purposes to determine eligibility for specific positions.
  • Determines benefit - eligibility dates and costs for employees.
  • Acts as liaison to employees and the public to answer questions regarding eligible lists, appointments and benefits.
  • Maintains employee application files.
  • Processes request for classification of new positions or reclassification of existing ones.
  • Process paperwork for personnel transactions such as appointments, leaves of absence, resignations and retirements.
  • Assists with recruitment of staff-posting vacancies and following procedures and guidelines in accordance with established policies.
  • Provides an orientation for new staff, describing benefits, policies, salary etc.
  • Maintains various employee records including personnel, and salary benefits.

Requirements:

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and either:

A) Two (2) years of clerical experience processing personnel transaction; OR
B) Four (4) years of clerical experience in an office situation; OR
C) Completion of 60 credit hours at a regionally accredited or New York State registered College or University; OR
D) An equivalent combination and training experience as indicated in A), B), and C) above.

Additional Information:

All appointments will be Provisional pending satisfactory completion of the competitive Civil Service testing requirement.  

The hourly rate for this position is $23.63.

Offers of employment will be conditional based upon the results of a satisfactory, required pre-employment Standard Background Check.
