Human Resources Business Partner – Compensation and Benefits


The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) specializing in Compensation & Benefits at Florida Polytechnic University plays a pivotal role in the implementation and administration of the university's compensation and benefits programs. This position will be responsible for educating University staff and faculty on health benefit programs and retirement programs, sponsored by the Division of State Group Insurance, the Division of Retirement, and the University. This position works closely with various partners to ensure compliance with employment laws, procedures, and pay administration guidelines, contributing to the University's mission of maintaining a talented, equitable workforce.


  • Compensation Administration: Assists in the administration of the classification structure and compensation strategy. Reviews, evaluates, and approves employment transactions, ensuring accurate input into Workday.

  • Benefits Administration: Manages and administers various employee benefits programs such as health, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement plans, and other related plans. Collaborates with the Compensation, Benefits, & Retirement Manager to develop employee and retiree communication materials to enhance understanding of the state and university-sponsored benefit plans.

  • Job Description Management: Creates standard job descriptions and collaborates with partners to revise position descriptions in alignment with division needs and classification structure.

  • Training and Development: Delivers training on compensation and classification matters to campus.

  • Communication and Compliance: Helps prepare communications in accordance with regulations, and guidelines regarding changes to employee classifications and compensation.

  • Other duties as assigned: Employee Relations, Recruitment, Immigration, Data, Reports, and Audit: participates in and completes compensation-related surveys, such as the annual College and Universities Professional Associations (CUPA). Conducts regular and periodic audits to verify the accuracy of WD records and processes. Assists with special projects including but not limited to competitive market studies, and completion of annual salary surveys.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, Strong organizational and time management skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.

  • Benefits programs include health, dental, retirement, and other related employee benefits.

  • Knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to human resources including but not limited to FLSA, The Equal Pay Act, NLRA, and Sherman Antitrust Act.

  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply and convey University regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • Knowledge of HR best practices in compensation and classification

  • Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision. Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

  • Ability to think critically and make clear, well-reasoned and timely decisions.

  • Ability to provide responsive, professional customer service.

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field.

  • Two years of experience in human resources with a focus on compensation and benefits.

  • In lieu of a degree, any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

  • HR Certification such as SHRM (CP/SCP) or HRCI (PHR/SPHR).

  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP)

  • Experience in higher education or public sector HR.

  • This position requires a criminal background check, which may include a Level II screening as required by Florida Statute §435.04.

  • This position is subject to federal and state privacy regulations.

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: This position is salary exempt. The normal work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; however, occasional overtime (weekends and evenings) may be required. Travel between campus locations may be required.

TARGET HIRING SALARY: $55,000 - $ 65,000, based on experience.
