Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.

Position Summary:

The ideal candidate will join a vibrant and inclusive educational community, and have a desire and ability to work with a diverse population.

As a member of the Office of Information Technology - Network Operations team, this individual provides technical support to the highest standards for the college and remote campuses; maintaining the performance and availability of all Windows Server System infrastructure, and related services required in day-to-day operations for the college’s staff, faculty, and students. This includes monitoring and maintaining the health, integrity, and security of server systems located on the network and data center. Locations of responsibilities are the colleges campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and the Ashland Technology Center.


Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Provision/install/configure, maintenance, and patching of system server hardware and software for our Microsoft Windows-based platforms;
  • Apply OS patches and upgrades, repair and recover from hardware and software failures;
  • Perform daily system monitoring, investigate and troubleshoot issues;
  • User and Group Management:Create, modify and delete user accounts in Active Directory and Microsoft 365;
  • Active Directory support and maintenance.Install, configure, and maintain domain controllers. Manage and troubleshoot replication;
  • Group Policy Management:create, edit, and deploy Group Policy Objects (GPOs) to enforce security and configuration settings across the network;
  • Support daily backup operations, ensuring all system data is successfully backed up to appropriate media and managing GFS retention policies;
  • Perform troubleshooting and resolution of LAN and WAN issues;
  • Monitor and maintain the health, integrity, and security of the network infrastructure;
  • Maintain and monitor network security protocols such as SSL, SFTP, VPN;
  • Evaluate, recommend, and deploy new platforms and software in support of the College’s operations;
  • Monitor and resolve OIT Network Operations help desk ticket requests, act as a Tier II escalation for Tier I help desk support staff;
  • Occasional travel to remote campuses to perform related administration and support duties
  • Work with third-party contracted vendor services;
  • Other duties as needed.

Required Qualifications:


Applicants must have at least (A) five years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in electronic data processing, of which (B) at least three years must have been in work in which the major duties included computer systems analysis, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

I. An Associate's degree with a major in the field of data processing or computer programming may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.*

II. A Bachelor's degree with a major in the field of data processing or computer and/or information science may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required (A) experience.*

III. A Graduate degree with a major in the field of data processing or computer and/or information science may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required (A) experience.*

IV. A diploma for completion of a two year full-time, or equivalent part-time, program in a recognized non-degree granting business or vocational/technical school above the high school level with a major in the field of computer programming may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.*

V. An official transcript from a recognized business or vocational/ technical school as evidence of completion of a program consisting of at least 650 hours of instruction in the field of computer programming maybe substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.*

VI. Graduation from the data processing course of a recognized vocational/technical high school may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.

*Education toward such a degree or diploma will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

NOTE: No substitution will be allowed for more than two years of the required (A) experience.

NOTE: No substitution will be allowed for the three years of the required (B) experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action and workforce diversity;

  • Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved students;
  • 4+ years’ Azure Core Infrastructure experience formerly Microsoft Systems Engineer (MCSE) showing a demonstrated expertise in designing, implementing and administrating Windows server infrastructure;
  • 3+ years’ experience supporting and configuring Microsoft 365 services such as Exchange Online, Sharepoint, Teams;
  • 2+ years’ experience supporting Microsoft Active Directory Services, Group Policy Objects (GPOs) to enforce file and device security and configuration settings across the network;
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, ability to maintain confidentiality, work with minimal supervision;
  • Experience multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment;
  • Experience working in a multi-user environment supporting users at different skill levels;
  • Previous experience with computer applications relating to higher education preferred;
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work occasional after-hours support as authorized;
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
Additional Information:


Salary Range: AFSCME Unit I, Grade 25 Step 1 $83,669.82 annually. Appointments from outside the bargaining unit begin at Step 1 of the range.
