Elon University invites applications for a position of Lecturer in English: First-Year Writing and the Core Curriculum, beginning in mid-August 2024. The successful applicant will teach seven courses per year, equally split across first-year writing courses and the first-year Core Curriculum Seminar: The Global Experience, with the opportunity to teach the upper-level interdisciplinary Core Capstone course.

At Elon, lecturers are permanent faculty members, with a continuance and promotion process. They teach seven courses per year, typically on a 3-1-3 schedule, and engage in significant departmental and institutional service and leadership. We seek candidates who have a demonstrated interest in first-year writing and the first-year experience, who hold interdisciplinary interests, who are committed to the values of the liberal arts, and who bring a global perspective to their pedagogy and practice. We are especially interested in candidates with rich teaching histories who can contribute in innovative and inclusive ways to the first-year experience and the Core Curriculum.

Requirements: Master’s degree or higher in English, composition/rhetoric, or a closely related area of study; three years of teaching experience at the college level; a record of excellence in teaching; and demonstrated deep commitment to teaching and engagement in professional activity related to the first-year experience. Other teaching experience may be considered.
