St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens, FL, is seeking applications from qualified individuals to lecture undergraduate courses in Ethics/Philosophy for our on-ground programs. The candidate must display evidence of teaching excellence, a commitment to undergraduate education, and ability to work with diverse populations. Master’s degree or higher in Philosophy and/or Ethics

Essential Job Functions:

  • Teach undergraduate/graduate course sections per year in the areas of ethics and philosophy.
  • Prepare course syllabus that includes content, assessment tools, and pedagogical methods that address different learning methods.
  • Instruct students in the pertinent philosophical content of the course with the aim of assessing student learning through a variety of evaluative measures.
  • Maintain communication with program director regarding content and pedagogical questions and concerns, as well as student progress and concern as necessary.
  • Abide by STU Faculty / Adjunct Handbook

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Possess excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Possess working familiarity with Canvas learning platform.
  • Ability to work well with students and colleagues in a multi-ethnic/multi-cultural environment.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings.
  • Proficiency in use of computer hardware and curriculum related software.
  • Strong record in the use of digital technology in teaching and research preferred.

Required Education:

Ability to teach undergraduate courses in the areas of ethics and philosophy. A minimum of 18 graduate level courses are required in the area of ethics / philosophy.

Preferred Qualification

Doctoral Degree or Graduate Degree in Ethics / Philosophy

Additional Requirements: The final candidate is to successfully complete a background screening and reference check process.

Tuition Benefit

After 1 year of continuous full‐time service, employees are eligible to enroll in STU’s bachelor and master courses, tuition‐free. The program will cover a maximum timeframe of 125% of credit hours attempted toward the degree program. Employees may enroll in STU’s doctoral program, with a 40% tuition discount, under the same conditions.
