Adjunct Instructor in ESL/Bilingual Education for dual enrollment courses
Position Details
The ESL/Bilingual Education programs in the College of Education at Rowan University are seeking an adjunct instructor to teach bilingual dual enrollment courses to local high school students. The courses taught in this bilingual dual enrollment initiative are undergraduate core courses that address literacy skills and teacher education content.
- Requirements
- M.A. or M.Ed degree from an accredited institution of higher
education in Applied Linguistics, Literacy, TESOL, Bilingual
Education, or a closely related field;
- Strong, explicit commitment to educational equity and social
justice with experience working in diverse settings;
- At least 3 years teaching experience with multilingual (ML) or
emergent bilingual (EB) students in secondary classrooms in the
United States;
- Proficiency in Spanish and English;
- Ability to teach face-to-face classes 3 times per week in
southern New Jersey.

The Educadores del Futuro at Rowan (EdFaR) initiative offers the opportunity for NJ high school students to take Rowan University courses taught by Rowan faculty to earn university credits. In partnership with NJ public school districts, the EdFaR initiative provides a dual enrollment opportunity to multilingual NJ students with the goals of (1) closing the achievement, access, and opportunity gaps for multilingual and immigrant-origin students, and (2) building a pathway for students into post-secondary studies with a focus on the teaching profession. Students who enroll in EdFaR courses are eligible to receive high school credits in addition to Rowan University credits.
EdFaR Objectives
- Promote opportunities for student university readiness by
engaging students in experiential, university-level learning
activities through university courses while developing
relationships with Rowan faculty;
- Promote opportunities for student access to university-level
academic work by establishing a pathway for local multilingual high
school students to gain college credit and exposure to the teaching
profession;
- Provide opportunities for increasing equitable university
access for local, low-income, and multilingual students attending
high school in NJ schools/districts;
- Promote student interest in the teacher education career
field;
- Build a sustainable pathway of support for young, multilingual
teachers into NJ P12 public schools.
