Job Summary/Basic Function
The department of Alumni Engagement is accepting applications for a Director of Alumni Engagement. The Director of Alumni Engagement develops the strategic planning and implementation of alumni programming to lead the Office of Alumni Engagement in supporting Millersville University's EPPIIC Values and mission to provide diverse, dynamic, meaningful experiences to inspire learners to grow both intellectually and personally to enable them to contribute positively to local and global communities.

The Director is responsible for providing inspirational leadership to a team that works to 1) engage the 73,000+ alumni, 2) feed student recruitment, 3) identify and provide volunteer opportunities for alumni, and 4) support University fundraising. The office is expected to engage at least 8,000 total alumni (with an increase expected in each succeeding year) annually. The Director will provide evaluative methods for analyzing the success of each initiative for which the office is responsible and will continuously abide by best practices in the field. The Director supervises an Assistant Director, a graduate assistant, undergraduate student workers, and alumni volunteers.

Annual Salary: $69,716.00 - $80,000.00, plus comprehensive benefits starting on the first day of employment, including:

  • Health insurance - Low bi-weekly premium, with coverage starting on the first day of employment for employee and all dependents.
  • Dental insurance - Coverage is free to employee and dependents with coverage starting on the first day of employment.
  • Vision insurance - Coverage is free to employee and dependents with coverage starting on the first day of employment.
  • Group life insurance - Equal to annual salary (up to $50,000) at no cost to the employee.
  • Voluntary Group Life and Accident Insurance - Available for purchase at low rates for additional employee coverage as well as coverage for spouse and children.
  • Long Term Disability Insurance - Available for purchase at low rates with either a 90 or 180-day waiting period.
  • Retirement - 2 plans to choose from.
  • Tuition waiver - For employee, spouse, and dependents.
  • Personal leave - Up to 6 days per year.
  • Vacation leave- Up to 10.4 days accrued per year for first year, increases to 15.6 days per year after 1 year.
  • Sick leave - Up to 15.6 days accrued per year, including up to 5 days per year that can be taken to care for a family member.
  • Holiday leave - 12 days per calendar year.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 3 years:
    • management experience.
    • experience in working with volunteers.
    • professional development experience or volunteer experience with personal solicitation.


  • Demonstrated success in alumni engagement as evidenced through philanthropy, communications, volunteerism, and event attendance.
  • Successful experience in:

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree.
  • 5 years management experience in higher education.
  • Three years’ experience in alumni relations.
  • Knowledge of the university, its history, mission, and direction.
  • Spanish fluency.


Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Strengthen collaborative partnerships with key campus stakeholders, including the President’s office, to foster their involvement with alumni engagement initiatives.
  • Provide support and strategic vision to the Alumni Association, maintain ongoing communication with members of the board to ensure meaningful involvement and impact:
    • Ensure that the Millersville University Alumni Association (MUAA) Board of Directors has a 100% giving participation rate each fiscal year.
    • Provide staff liaisons to MUAA standing committees (Executive, Alumni Engagement, Alumni Events, Financial Planning, Membership, Scholarships, Grants and Awards, Technology, as well as ad hoc alumni committees)
    • Research and contract with revenue generating affinity programs, such as PSECU, Liberty Mutual, etc.
    • Co-manage budget of $100,000 and assets over $1.5 million.


  • Plan, organize, and measure alumni engagement efforts throughout the region and United States in a quality, cost-effective and efficient manner; offer diverse experiences, events, programs, and communication platforms.
    • Coordinate the recruitment, supervision, and recognition of over 300 alumni volunteers.
    • Possess the analytical skills to request and decipher accurate alumni data to anticipate the highest ROI on a project (event location, mailings, etc.).
    • Submission of content to the Millersville Review biannual magazine.
  • Maintain knowledge of best practices in alumni relations, alumni engagement, volunteer service and management, metrics and assessment, alumni programming, communication, and philanthropy.
  • Educate students about alumni benefits and engage them in the philanthropic experience.

Engaging Alumni:
  • Create opportunities for alumni to connect with one another.
  • Disseminate pertinent communications from campus to the alumni community in a timely fashion.
  • Host on campus opportunities for alumni to reconnect with the campus (Homecoming, Reunion, etc.).

Student Recruitment:
  • Work closely with Admissions to promote applications and campus visits from children and grandchildren of alumni).
  • Strengthen the ’Ville Legacy Family Program.
  • Provide materials to and support alumni who are teachers.

Volunteer:
  • Recruit alumni to give of their time and talent to University initiatives.
  • Identify alumni who connect with the University through other offices (ELCM, faculty, etc.)
  • Serve as staff liaison to the Millersville University Alumni Association (MUAA).

Fundraising:
  • Host opportunities for Major Gift Officers to interact with alumni.
  • Identify, cultivate, and steward alumni donors; refer prospects to MGOs.
  • Solicit at least 15 alumni prospects annually and submit 200 touch reports to support the pipeline.

  • All other duties as assigned.


Essential Functions
