Job Description:
The Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence will support faculty in developing inclusive teaching methods that effectively meet their pedagogical goals and promote student success. Reporting to the Associate Provost for Academic Programs, the CTLE Director will provide leadership and a vision for teaching innovation, facilitate collaborative initiatives that will foster a strong culture of teaching and learning across the university, and cultivate enthusiasm for creative and inclusive pedagogical strategies that are responsive to the rapidly changing landscape in higher education.

  • PhD, with expertise in research-based teaching practices, evidence of successful teaching, extensive experience leading initiatives in academic settings (particularly in a research-intensive university), and experience with developing strong partnerships and cultivating a collective vision.

Job Specific Qualifications:
  • The successful candidate should have a record of excellence in teaching; extensive knowledge of effective strategies to promote student success within higher education and within (a) specific discipline(s), proven success in working with faculty in one-on-one and in group settings, demonstrated skill in collaboration, knowledge of assessment of student learning and curricular outcomes, commitment to inclusive pedagogies, and extensive familiarity with scholarship of teaching and learning. We anticipate hiring the candidate into a tenured or teaching faculty position, with rank to be determined based on the candidate’s experience.

  • The Director will oversee Center staff and collaborate with partners across the University in initiatives that support teaching, learning, and student success. Possible activities include facilitating reading and discussion groups; developing a teaching academy for new faculty; providing support for the first-year seminar; designing, developing, and implementing regular workshops on timely topics for faculty; providing one-on-one and small group coaching; organizing events highlighting faculty expertise in areas pertaining to pedagogy; supporting development and assessment of IDEA courses and instructors; assessing and sustaining current programs supported by the CTLE.
