Department Description:  
The Department of City and Regional Planning is an academic unit within the College of Arts and Sciences. The Department engages in teaching, primarily at the graduate level; conducts applied research on urban and regional issues; and serves the state, nation, and planning profession. The department offers a Masters in City and Regional Planning, a PhD, and an undergraduate minor. In any given year there are about 85 Masters students enrolled, 35 doctoral students and a growing cadre of undergraduates and students enrolled in dual degree programs. The faculty consists of 13 tenure-track faculty members along with research and emeritus professors all of whom are active in the teaching and research programs of the department. The faculty usually generates over $3.0 million annual in about 40 research or training grants.

Position Description:  
The Department of City and Regional Planning at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking a full-time Teaching Assistant Professor to teach courses at the intersection of city and regional planning and personal finance. This position is a full time, 9-month position and carries a 3 course per semester teaching load in spring and fall. Courses will be determined based on the selected candidate’s expertise and departmental needs. This position will be hired with a 3-year initial contract with the possibility of renewal and promotion, in accordance with university and departmental personnel policies. This position is expected to spend approximately 80% of their time teaching and approximately 20% of their time doing service. We are looking to hire for a July 1, 2024 start date.

Masters (or conferral during the 2023-2024 academic year) in City and Regional Planning or a related discipline. Teaching experience at the undergraduate level and strong evidence of competency in the Planning field or a related discipline.

Qualifications and Experience:  
Qualifications include the following: Candidates should have a record and/or demonstrated potential for outstanding teaching at the undergraduate level. Interest in teaching courses related to personal finance, financial principles, markets, investment, entrepreneurship, real estate development and public policy preferred. Applicants should demonstrate significant professional experience.
