The Department of Computer Science in the May School of Art and Sciences at Stonehill College invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position, anticipated to begin in August 2024. While all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply, the department is especially interested in candidates who can teach upper-level core computer science courses such as Operating Systems, Computer Networks, Cybersecurity, Compiler Design, Databases, and Software Engineering.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The position involves teaching introductory and upper-level Computer Science courses. The applicants must show a strong interest in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students and enjoy working closely with students to establish academic and professional goals.

The appointee will be expected to pursue a scholarly agenda with publications, presentations at conferences, and participation in professional societies. A commitment to service to the Department, School, and College is also essential. The standard teaching load is three courses per semester (fall/spring) with the option to teach additional courses during summer and winter sessions. During each faculty member’s first year, a one-course reduction is provided in either the fall or spring semester. Opportunities to work with students on research projects will also be available to candidates interested in this prospect. This is an on-campus position, and the qualified candidate must teach on the Stonehill campus.

Education & Experience

Applicants must have earned a doctorate or a terminal degree in Computer Science or a related field. ABD candidates will be considered, as long as they can complete their degree requirements by summer 2024. Industry experience (private sector or public sector) or previous undergraduate teaching experience is also desirable.

Interested applicants should submit online a letter of application (cover letter), teaching statement curriculum vitae, contact information for 3 reference letters, and evidence of teaching effectiveness (such as summaries of student evaluations). We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching and research. The candidate’s DEI values and approaches should be explicitly integrated into the teaching statement. DEI values and approaches may be driven from many experiences, including coursework or workshops, professional service, focus or practice in scholarship, or classroom practices.
