Industry engagement is a critical component to the success of our programs and our reputation as a leading business school. From experiential learning to applied research to placement, we seek to engage organizations to partner in solving complex problems and preparing the next generation of leaders. The Wisconsin School of Business is establishing a new team to lead our industry engagement strategy, responsible for identifying priority companies and leveraging our network of alumni and parent community to tell our story and build partnerships with great organizations.

Reporting to the Dean of the Wisconsin School of Business, the Executive Director of Industry Relations is a new position that will galvanize our approach to industry engagement, building a proactive account-management approach to engaging companies in multi-disciplinary partnerships. This person will identify and cultivate relationships with business and industry partners and build a team to serve as account managers to advance relationships with a portfolio of priority companies.

Key deliverables for this role will include sourcing a robust portfolio of consulting projects, engagement of industry leaders to sit on boards and speak at conferences, enhancing the portfolio of companies who hire our graduates, engaging companies to partner with us in solving critical problems through applied research and executive education opportunities. This leader will have access to the Dean and other school leaders to advance these priorities. This role will require significant collaboration with constituents across WSB, including employer relations teams, Center Directors, Dean's office, advancement team and departments.

This is a highly visible and collaborative role. The ideal candidate will possess excellent relationship management skills, experience with corporate outreach and partnership development and experience within higher education. A successful candidate will be a self-directed, collaborative leader with a track record of building partnerships. Candidates should be able to travel at least 25%.

Responsibilities: Determines the strategic direction of the unit, personally cultivates and maintains relationships with business and industry partners; and is accountable for all unit programmatic, fiscal, and personnel related matters to align with corporate and foundation-related institutional strategic goals.
  • 25% Directs the development of large scale and high-profile strategic planning initiatives and objectives to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative, and staffing resources and alignment with the strategic plan
  • 5% Develops operating policies and procedures to comply with regulations, institutional policies, and objectives
  • 10% Directs the implementation of participation in campaign and engagement efforts
  • 20% Serves as a liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups providing organizational information and representing the interests of the institution in the cultivation of industry and business partner relationships
  • 5% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • 10% Supervises and develops director-level staff
  • 5% Develops and oversees the budget
  • 20% Identify and procure consulting projects from industry for student experiential learning across all programs
