For 25 years, Creative Capital has led the way in professional development programs for artists. Our model of providing long-term professional support services for artists along with our grants is now the gold standard for artist support, reproduced across nonprofit arts organizations and academic institutions alike. Core to our mission is our belief that educational tools and skill sets are key to helping artists build sustainable careers and fostering equity in the arts. We are looking to hire a seasoned educator to serve as the Director of Education to lead and build innovative professional development programs and services for professional artists.

The Director will work closely with the President, Artist Initiatives, Audience Engagement, and Development departments to support artists regionally, nationally, and internationally, to expand our Creative Capital Curriculum, to create in-person and hybrid programs, and to help raise funds, build partnerships, and secure grants to sustain these resources for future generations of artists. The ideal candidate will have a deep passion for and commitment to supporting contemporary artists across Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Film, Technology, Literature, and Socially Engaged forms, and possess a proven track record of developing and delivering exceptional programs online and in-person for the arts.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Work closely with the President and across departments to develop new Education programs, including the Creative Capital Curriculum and Artist Labs, as well as other educational programs to support our broader community of artists working in visual arts, performing arts, film, technology, literature, and socially engaged forms

Develop educational content with a demonstrated and evidenced commitment for working with artists with artistic practices in multiple disciplines, and critical discourses in education and cultural practice

Expand educational offerings for professional artists in areas such as strategic planning, financial planning, legal services, fundraising, communications and audience development, licensing and merchandising, archiving, and other issues related to professional artists’ careers

Manage partnerships with institutions and organizations to advance education in the arts

Oversee the hiring and management of course instructors and guest lecturers Develop and track course evaluations and other key performance indicators

Works with COO to manage Education budget

Work with Director of Artist Initiatives and Director of Audience Engagement to engage Creative Capital Awardees and broader community in our online and in-person educational programming

Identify and lead fundraising, grants, reporting, and partnership opportunities related to Creative Capital Education in concert with the President and the Development Department

Work with President and Development team on cultivating institutional and individual donors for educational initiatives

Work with Audience Engagement team on messaging educational programs and growing enrollment for courses Stay abreast of developing cultural discourses, incorporating relevant content into course offerings

Participation in Creative Capital artist events, board events, and community events

Other duties as assigned   QUALIFICATIONS

MA or PhD in education or arts-related field preferred

A minimum of 5 years of teaching experience at the university level and/or in museum education; additional experience teaching in non-institutional contexts highly desirable

A minimum of 3 years of curriculum development

Extensive knowledge of online course development in CANVAS and in-person teaching Creative and agile thinker; able to work collaboratively with artists, industry professionals, cultural producers, and funders

Experience building courses in Canvas and with online learning technologies Strong grasp of educational philosophies and artist-led radical pedagogical practices

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English Collaborative, diplomatic, positive, proactive team builder Track record of excellence in education, arts administration, or related field

Ability and interest to travel locally, regionally, and internationally

The position is exempt, and non-union. Ideally, candidates are based in or near Creative Capital’s offices in New York City. Includes generous paid time off and benefits.
