Description

The University of Texas at Austin Maseeh Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering https://www.caee.utexas.edu invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in the Engineering of Habitats for Extreme Environments (EHEE).

Engineering of Habitats for Extreme Environments involves the design and construction of sustainable and resilient infrastructure in some of the universe's most inhospitable environments, whether on Earth (underground, offshore, undersea, in the desert, or in the arctic), or off Earth (orbital and extraterrestrial habitats). Of particular interest for the position are candidates with expertise in addressing the multifaceted, transdisciplinary, engineering challenges associated with extraterrestrial habitat creation on the Moon or Mars.

Qualifications

Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. degree in Engineering, Science or other relevant discipline. The successful candidate will be expected to create undergraduate and graduate learning environments that address the needs of students from a variety of backgrounds with differing learning styles and abilities and to teach courses in mechanics, materials, and/or structural engineering. Further, the successful applicant will be expected to develop an externally sponsored research program, mentor graduate students, collaborate with other faculty, and serve the university and profession.

Application Instructions

Interested applicants should submit the following materials:

(1) a letter of interest; (2) a complete curriculum vitae, including academic and professional experience, and a list of publications; (3) statement of research interests, outlining areas of technical expertise and future plans; (4) teaching and mentoring statement; and (5) the names and e-mail addresses of, at least, three references. The letter of interest should be addressed to: Professor Robert B. Gilbert, Chair, Maseeh Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering.

Review of applications will begin on December 15, 2023, and will continue until an appropriate candidate is identified.

Please address questions to Professor Loukas F. Kallivokas, EHEE Faculty Search Committee Chair (loukas@mail.utexas.edu).
