Medical Director

Job Summary
The Medical Director has primary responsibility for medical care at FGCU. Promotes and assures quality clinical services across the student health facility and provides strategic direction.

Job Description

Typical duties include but are not limited to:
  • Provides operational direction and oversight of operations, technology functions, and clinical services.
  • Designs, develops, implements, coordinates, assesses, and continuously improves health-related programs and services for students in collaboration with the Director, Student Health Services.
  • Recruits and hires skilled and professional staff. Provides supervision, guidance, training, evaluation, and leadership to clinical staff.
  • Builds and strengthens relationships with vendors, partners and university departments to ensure services are provided timely and efficiently.
  • Recommends new or improved guidelines, policies, and/or procedures and oversees implementation.
  • Coordinates with external and internal departments/agencies to maintain compliance including ensuring accreditation requirements are met for the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).
  • Ensures and maintains confidentiality of medical records.
  • Provides primary medical care to students including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Adheres to and complies with HIPAA.
  • Serves as essential personnel and provides assistance in the event of an emergency on campus.

Other Duties:
  • Serves as laboratory and pharmacy director.
  • Precepts and supervises Family Medicine Residents.
  • Precepts and supervises students from FGCU Physician Assistant Studies Program and the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program
  • Serves on Institutional committees representing the interests of the department.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications
  • Medical degree from an accredited institution.
  • Licensed to practice medicine in accordance with Chapter 458, Florida Statues.
  • Six years of professional, full-time experience practicing medicine in a clinic, office, or hospital environment. Completion of a residency program may substitute for the required experience.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Board certification from an accredited medical certifying organization.
  • Experience in a higher education student health center.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, statues, regulations, codes, and standards related to the area of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of current research, theory and best practices of medical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention practices.
  • Knowledge of women's reproductive health issues and contraceptives.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skill in mediation and dispute resolution.
  • Ability to thrive in an organization that values the diversity of its student body and workforce and actively promotes an equitable environment.
  • Ability to think critically and creatively, have a high standard of integrity, and be motivated to incorporate best practices into the organizational structure.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
