The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking an Instructor, Computer Science for Chabot College in Hayward, CA.



Representative Duties:
1. Ability to design and deliver computer science course material, utilizing multiple instructional platforms, pedagogical strategies, and assessment techniques.

2. Ability to modify and enhance instructional methodology and modalities to accommodate varied learning styles and abilities.

3. Ability to teach C++, Python and Assembly Language Programming.

4. Commitment to working with other faculty and staff to increase support and success for computer science and STEM students.

5. Ability to teach courses at times and in formats needed to meet student demand and student-friendly scheduling, including late afternoon, evening, weekend, distance learning, and/or off-campus classes.

6. Evidence of a sensitivity to and an understanding of the culturally and ethnically diverse backgrounds and learning needs of Chabot College students.

7. Be a lead faculty member for computer science, organizing both course level and program level assessments, supporting part-time faculty, and designing and educating on safety protocols.

8. Actively participate in departmental, divisional, and shared governance workgroup/committees.

9. Demonstrate culturally responsive teaching and student support practices.

10. Partner with community groups, schools, and businesses to provide additional learning opportunities for computer science students.

11. Commitment to remain current with advances in computer science and computer programming languages.


Minimum Education and Experience:
Master’s in computer science or computer engineering

OR Bachelor’s in either of the above AND Master’s in mathematics, cybernetics, business administration, accounting or engineering

OR Bachelor’s in engineering AND Master’s in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration

OR Bachelor’s in mathematics AND Master’s in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration

OR Bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND A master’s degree in information science, computer information systems, or information systems

OR the equivalent

Minimum Qualifications:
Evidence of a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical and learning disabilities.



Desirable Qualifications:
1. Proficiency in the following areas is preferred: Java Programming, Operating Systems, Machine Learning.

2. Previous teaching experience in computer science at the community college or university level.

3. Ability to teach major-level computer science courses.
