Mental Health Therapist

Job Summary

The University Counseling Center (UCC) at The University of Utah enthusiastically welcomes applications for a full-time mental health therapist to become an integral member of our counseling team. Primary responsibilities include providing initial consultations, individual counseling, group therapy, relationship counseling, and crisis counseling to University of Utah students. Opportunities for supervision and training of masters-level social work interns are possible. Counselors may also be asked to provide campus outreach presentations and UCC programming and workshops as needed. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to working effectively from a multicultural and anti-racist orientation with our diverse college student population. Successful completion of a background check is required prior to hire and is paid for by the UCC. Priority review date is February 23, 2024. The position may close anytime after that date.

Our staff is composed of professionals from psychology, social work, and APRN backgrounds. We have several nationally recognized training programs, including a doctoral psychology internship accredited by the American Psychological Association, a master's internship in Social Work, and practica in Counseling Psychology and Clinical Psychology.   1. Primarily responsible to provide crisis intake assessments, individual, group, couple/relationship counseling, and crisis intervention services.
  2. May provide clinical supervision to trainees.
  3. Candidates must also demonstrate excellent human relations skills and effective verbal and written communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications
Current Licensed Clinical Social Worker (L.C.S.W.*) certificate for clinical practice and two years of directly related experience; demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team; ability to communicate verbally as well as in writing; and experience with conflict resolution when counseling individuals, couples and groups required. Experience working with community resources, instructing and supervising Social Workers, Interns, and other caseworkers preferred. Five years of experience may be required in some areas. *An L.C.S.W. is earned after completing 4000 hours of Social Work experience and a passing score on the L.C.S.W. exam.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. We protect our patients, coworkers, and community by requiring all patient-sensitive employees to be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.

At a minimum, candidates must demonstrate eligibility for licensure for independent practice in Utah as follows: For Social Work, have completed a Masters of Social Work with licensure as a Clinical Social Worker (CSW).

Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience in college student mental health.
