Superintendent of Maintenance

The Superintendent of Maintenance reports to the Director of Physical Plant & Chief Environmental Safety & Compliance Officer. The superintendent plans, coordinates, and supervises the daily activities of the Engineering and Maintenance departments.

Job Requirements:

• Associate degree in engineering technology or equivalent experience is required.

• Ten years of experience in mechanical and building maintenance and five years supervisory experience is required.

• This position requires a valid Driver's license, a good driving record, and must be insurable by the College's insurance carrier.

• First class steam and first class refrigeration license for Memphis/Shelby County is preferred.

Job Responsibilities:

• Directs and evaluates the operation and personnel of the Engineering and Building Maintenance departments.

• Manages departmental budget.

• Interviews, selects, recommends, trains, evaluates, and disciplines departmental personnel as necessary.

• Reviews and assigns work orders, assigns daily tasks to employees, and coordinates activities of employees during special events or periods of academic recess.

• Performs routine engineering and maintenance duties when training or assisting employees or assuming the duties of an absent employee.

• Purchases and maintains inventory of equipment and supplies necessary for the completion of routine maintenance and special projects.

• Responds to campus emergencies as required during evening and weekend hours.

• Coordinates with other Physical Plant departments as necessary.

• Plans work schedules and assigns hours of work to insure adequate on-duty personnel.

• Other duties as assigned.

• Regular attendance is an essential function to perform the duties of this position.

• Must be able to pass a background check, pre-employment lift test, physical and drug screen.

Physical Demands:

Exerting up to 100 pounds of force with assistance occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Exposure to extreme heat, noise, chemicals, fumes, dust. Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, repetitive motions. Close visual acuity. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Exposure to extreme cold and heat, noise, chemicals, fumes, dust. Required to function in narrow aisles or passageways.
