Job Summary

Counseling & Psychiatric Services (CAPS) at the University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Fellows! Fellows will have the opportunity to continue their professional development and training, enhance their competence and confidence in the PMHNP role, and develop professional autonomy. Fellows will continue their professional development and training by completing initial psychiatric evaluations and follow-up medication management appointments with senior staff supervision. Fellows will be able to participate in different didactic seminars, have additional training in a focus area, and be involved in psychiatry and multidisciplinary case consultation groups.

CAPS is a multidisciplinary team including psychiatrists, psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners, registered nurses, psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, and licensed professional counselors. This role will collaborate with CAPS staff on all aspects of service delivery. This position also ensures that issues of diversity and social justice are considered in all assessment, treatment, referral, training, and outreach services provided.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Provide medical/psychiatric coverage with senior staff supervision:
  • New psychiatric evaluations and follow-up appointments
  • Psychiatric consultations
  • Staff consultation
  • Urgent/Crisis clinical services
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests when indicated
  • Weekly trainings as well as additional trainings
  • Represent the department in mental health topic presentations
  • Represent CAPS as a liaison to provide outreach to the campus community
  • Collaborate with other departments and clinics
  • Follow all CAPS guidelines around charting/documentation/billing/quality improvement
  • Participate in peer reviews and trainee evaluations
What You Should Know
  • These are 10-month appointments and are anticipated to start on August 5, 2024, and last through June 5, 2025.
  • The anticipated work schedule is Monday through Friday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm and the position offers a hybrid work modality.

The salary for this 10-month appointment is $61,000.

What We Require

Requirements to be completed by start date:
  • Completion of an accredited nurse practitioner master’s program or higher
  • Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from the American Nurse’s Credentialing Center (ANCC)
  • Completed all requirements for registration and license as a Registered Nurse from the State of Colorado or a Multicompact State License
  • Completed all requirements for registration in the State of Colorado as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)
  • Completed all requirements for Provisional Prescriptive authority (RXN) license from the State of Colorado
  • Completed all requirements for a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) License
What You Will Need
  • Effective interpersonal skills and communication skills including cultural proficiency in working with a diverse group of people
  • Ability to build and maintain successful collaborative relationships in a diverse campus community
  • Digital literacy (experience with Windows-based systems)

  • Experience working with neurodiversity, eating concerns, and/or substance use concerns
