Position Title: Technology Support Technician

Department: Information Technology Services

Advertised Pay: Base is $21.99/hr

Campus Location: Washburn Tech

Position Summary: The Technology Support Technician maintains computer software images for placement on the computer hard drives of desktops, in labs, and mediated classrooms, reflecting ITS configuration standards, Active Directory policy and categories approved by ITS leadership.

Essential Functions:
Installs images and additional licensed software supported by ITS on desktop, lab and mediated classroom computers, and additional software on desktop, lab and mediated classroom equipment with departmental and ITS leadership approval.

Installs, and registers on the network, University computer systems in labs, offices and mediated classrooms.

Troubleshoots hardware and software issues through diagnostic tests, Internet research and vendor consultation, and implements the best course of action for resolution.

Works with vendors, online and through telephone support, to obtain replacement parts and install computer hardware components.

Provides telephone and face-to-face support to Washburn employees regarding computer software, hardware and network issues; refers issues to other areas of ITS for resolution when necessary.

Maintains records of daily activities including installations, troubleshooting and repairs, to track user-specific issues, equipment maintenance and invoicing customers for parts.

Updates inventory records as necessary to provide for correct location and identification of computer assets.

Performs additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate.

Required Qualifications:
High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Demonstrated effective problem-solving, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
Proven ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
CompTia A+ certification is required within 6 months of employment.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to move equipment weighing as much as 50 pounds daily.

Preferred Qualifications:
Associate or post-secondary degree in computers or electronics.
CompTia A+ certification.
Experience working in an educational environment.
