Description

The School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences (SMaPS) in the College of Arts and Sciences ( CAS ) at the University of New England ( UNE ) invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor in mathematics beginning in August 2024. The successful candidate will join a collegial, engaged team of faculty and professional staff in a school offering programs in applied mathematics, data science, computer science, chemistry, biochemistry, laboratory science, and biophysics.

Responsibilities

The school seeks candidates to teach a broad range of introductory and intermediate courses in the mathematical sciences, including advanced courses aligning with the candidate’s expertise. The typical teaching load is the equivalent of 9 credits per semester. The successful candidate is expected to develop an active, independent research program involving undergraduate students that results in peer-reviewed dissemination of the work, and to seek external funding. Additionally, the successful candidate will also engage in curriculum development and participate in academic advising, recruiting, course and program assessment, and service to the school, college and University.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in Mathematics or closely related field is required at the time of appointment, along with demonstrated capacity to mentor undergraduate students in independent projects. Applications are welcomed from candidates with background in computational mathematics who can utilize modern programming languages in teaching. The successful applicant will demonstrate capacity for excellence in teaching and promising record of scholarly productivity.
