Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The mission of the Abrons Student Health Center ( SHC ) is to provide student-centered, affordable, quality health and preventive care to UNCW students. The SHC provides comprehensive medical services, a retail pharmacy, health education, and intervention services. The Health Center’s goal is to help students stay as healthy as possible so that they can fully engage in and out of the classroom.

Brief Summary of Work for this Position

This position provides administrative, research, and technical support to the Abrons Student Health Center staff and the Director. The incumbent must have excellent customer service, organizational skills, and possess the skills and abilities required to manage multiple tasks with sensitivity to confidentiality. The position must be able to:
  • Manage staff calendars
  • Coordinate purchasing, travel, reservations, catering, and print services orders
  • Serve as departmental leave keeper
  • Assist with basic IT issues; maintain the departmental website
  • Assist callers and visitors

This position requires flexibility, problem solving, and the interest and ability to learn.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Preferred education, professional skills and experience
  • Excellent customer service and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with sensitivity to confidentiality
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced work environment with competing priorities and frequent interruptions
  • Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office or comparable programs with the ability to learn new software and systems
  • Ability to provide clear and concise communications and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, families, faculty, staff, vendors, and local providers
  • Experience with Banner and/or an Electronic Health Record
