Purpose of Position

Assists the Director of Public Relations in sharing NKU’s stories with the media and other targeted audiences, cultivates relationships with local and regional media. Engages with colleges, campus and Alumni office to seek out stories.

The Communications Specialist will play a crucial role in enhancing the university’s brand and reputation through effective communication strategies.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Content Creation: Writes press releases and coordinates the details (gathering information, photos, etc.). Identifies opportunities to pitch stories/experts/ideas to the media and proactively dose so.
  • Media Relations: Along with director of PR, responds to media inquiries for NKU, schedules interviews and is present for on-camera interviews on campus. Understands that media inquiries require a timely response and urgency.
  • Creates and updates campus calendar of events that will need coverage from internal audiences and external. Builds and regularly maintains/updates spreadsheets of media contacts/outlets and coverage.
  • Serves as vendor contact with Cision and utilizes to analyze our coverage and overall sentiment. Track media coverage.
  • Assists in researching and developing media and marketing communications plans.
  • Write articles as needed for NKU Magazine and other features
Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and two years of related work experience.

Experience with Microsoft Office, AP style writing, newsroom style writing, social media proficiency, copy writing and editing
