College of Saint Mary, located in Omaha, NE, seeks a full-time Assistant Professor of Spanish position. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in Spanish, ranging from Spanish grammar and conversation to Spanish literature. The Spanish faculty reports directly to the Associate Dean for Arts, Sciences and Professional Studies. This faculty in this position serves as the program director for Spanish and the Medical Interpreting certificate program.

Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate will hold an earned Doctorate in Spanish from a regionally accredited institution, or its equivalent, must be fluent in spoken and written Spanish, and have experience teaching Spanish courses.   Experience teaching and designing hybrid and online Spanish courses; experience in crafting and developing course content with Canvas or another LMS; experience with translation and/or interpreting.

Primary Duties:

The successful candidate will responsible for teaching a full-time load, to include twelve (12) credit hours each semester (24 per academic year) of undergraduate courses, ranging from Spanish grammar and conversation to Spanish literature, history, and culture, and serve as the director of the Spanish program and the Medical Interpreter program. Serve as academic advisor for students within program and hold conferences with advisees and regular office hours for division students. Work closely with Education program for students majoring in Spanish/Secondary Education and advise students minoring in Spanish. Select textbooks, write program assessment reports, and review graduation audits prepared by Registrar. Oversee and supervise Medical Interpreting program, which trains bilingual speakers in interpretation techniques, and hire adjuncts for same as well as oversee assigned work-study students. Attend all faculty and division meetings for division as well as serve on at least one University committee, as assigned, and attend all committee meetings. The successful candidate will fulfill faculty responsibilities as assigned or as specified in the Faculty Handbook.
