The Opportunity:

The Rothwell Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (RCTLE) provides academic and instructional support for ERAU’s Worldwide Campus. The Senior Instructional Consultant will serve as an expert in best practices in pedagogy, instructional technology, and the scholarship of teaching and learning, and as such is expected to actively and continuously engage in professional development activities to remain current in teaching and educational technology trends and stay up to date with Embry-Riddle’s curriculum, instructional technology, and policies. The Senior Instructional Consultant will initiate and manage the creation and implementation of training materials based on the needs of RCTLE or the College Support Team as directed by the Associate Director. This can include initial onboarding, ongoing optional offerings, or additional resources as well as departmental or university research. The Senior Instructional Consultant will also seek out opportunities to engage with professional organizations focused on teaching and learning, success in Higher Education and/or Faculty Development (OLC, POD, QM, UPCEA, etc.). This can include serving on committees, presenting at conferences and/or contributing research to the academy. The Senior Instructional Consultant will also serve as a mentor for emerging Instructional Consultants within the RCTLE team.

The Senior Instructional Consultant is responsible for guiding, mentoring, and developing faculty. This is accomplished through regular communication, observation, and guidance from the RCTLE College Support Team which includes, course management and quality control activities that support faculty as they prepare to teach, when they are teaching and as they wrap-up teaching requirements. This can include reviewing courses to ensure adherence to contractual agreements and instructional best practices, engaging in dispute resolution by effective communication with academic advisors and college leadership as well as collaboration with college leadership to quickly address concerns and offer additional training opportunities.

Due to the dynamic nature of RCTLE, the Instructional Consultant must be flexible and able to work collaboratively both within the RCTLE team and with the other ERAU departments and colleges as needed to best serve the needs of the ERAU-W faculty thus positively impacting student success.

  • Master's degree

  • 3-5 years of related professional experience

Required Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
  • At least three years of teaching experience.

  • Excellent skills in performing administrative tasks and supervising personnel when needed.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Excellent research skills in the areas of evidence-based teaching practices.

  • Strong project management skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with faculty, RCTLE staff, IT staff, and Library staff.

  • Must be a self-starter and can work without close supervision.
