Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Deputy Chancellor, the Associate Vice Chancellor of Instruction will be responsible for supporting the four Los Rios colleges’ instructional programs and leading the District’s Workforce and Economic Development Center, ensuring adherence to Federal and State regulations and guidelines and District Board Policies and Regulations. This position works collaboratively with college administrators, faculty, and staff leaders to accomplish assigned duties and responsibilities.

Assignment Responsibilities

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Supporting the colleges in meeting equitable access and student completion goals with a focus on removing systemic barriers to higher education.
  • Leading districtwide initiatives and state mandates (e.g., AB 1705, AB 928, AB 1111) in instructional areas related to academic placement and transfer with the goal of increasing student course success and certificate/degree completion.
  • Supporting, promoting, and monitoring dual enrollment with the goal of expanding dual enrollment opportunities for all high school students in our region.
  • Supporting the implementation and maintenance of Degree Planner, so every student has a dynamic, real-time educational plan.
  • Supervising the Director of Degree Planning and Graduation Initiatives.
  • Providing administrative oversight of the District’s Workforce and Economic Development Center, including supervision of the Associate Vice President of Workforce and Economic Development.
  • Promoting coordination between the center and college instructional areas.
  • Supporting online teaching professional development and training with the goal of continuously improving online education.
  • Providing administrative support to the Academic Senate’s District Curriculum Coordinating Committee.
  • Providing administrative oversight of the District’s Program Placement Council.
  • Facilitating districtwide grant development and implementation related to CTE and instructional areas in collaboration with the colleges and District Grants Office.
  • Coordinating District Office review of grants, contracts, applications, and proposals for CTE and instructional programs.
  • Monitoring federal and state regulations pertaining to instruction and workforce and economic development and providing input and recommendations regarding instruction-related District Board policies and regulations.
  • Representing the District on various college, community, regional, and State committees, and at various meetings and conferences related to instruction.
  • Providing District support to the colleges’ K-12 to community college initiatives and pathways, including pathways from adult education to community colleges.
  • Providing District oversight of the Study Abroad Program and serves as administration co-chair of the International Education Committee.
  • Coordinating districtwide library support initiatives.
  • Working with the Associate Vice Chancellor of Student Services to develop and maintain activities that promote coordination between instruction and student services areas.
  • Working with the District’s Information Technology Department to provide instructional expertise in the development, implementation and update of the District’s student-facing technology infrastructure.
  • Evaluating staff as required in District policies and regulations.
  • Developing and recommending budgets for areas of responsibility.
  • Preparing various reports as required.

  • Ability to plan, organize, and supervise the work of staff.
  • Ability to understand and provide leadership in related educational management information systems.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Have a master’s degree from an accredited institution completed by July 1, 2024.
  2. Have one year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator’s administrative assignment.
  3. Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.
