Research Assistant - Biological Sciences

Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Research Assistant - Biological Sciences at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):

Perform under general supervision, set up and maintain lab equipment.

Demonstrate the ability to learn new techniques and protocols, as needed.

Order and maintain inventories of lab supplies.

Communicate and maintain records of experimental data.

Lead their own project under general supervision.

Assist team members with ongoing lab projects including PCR, DNA and protein purification, various biochemical assays, western blots, cell culture, and microscopy, as needed.

Assist the Principal Investigator with the development, testing, and revision of methods, practices, and protocols for general use in the lab.

Train new lab personnel in commonly used lab techniques.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


Bachelor of Science degree.

Experience in research lab setting.

Experience in biochemistry or cell biology.

Strong communication skills (verbal and written).

Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize and simultaneously manage multiple projects.

Ability to keep detailed records is essential.

Self-motivated and proactive when working in the lab.

Demonstrates the ability to work independently and well with others, depending on the project.

Preferred qualifications:

Experience in general cell biology and microscopy. Experience in culturing yeast and bacteria. Experience in molecular biology cloning techniques. A Master of Science degree.
