We are seeking aCO Patient Service Coordinator.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Offers friendly, courteous, and confidential assistance to every patient to ensure that the patient has a positive experience while at Johns Hopkins.
  • Maintain accurate information on each patient to facilitate the patient encounter.
  • Use automated systems to expedite patient scheduling, pre-registration, check-in, and check-out.
  • Work with others in a team environment.
  • Schedule patients.
  • Relay information to patients regarding preparation for laboratory tests and examinations.
  • Coordinate visits either within the department or between several departments.
  • Telephone patients to obtain accurate pre-registration information and to confirm appointments.
  • Verify and enter pre-registration and insurance information into the computer system.
  • Obtain and/or verify patient demographic data by phone or in person.
  • Confirm appointments by telephone and/or mail. Fill vacancies due to cancellations.
  • Register patients for clinical appointments using the computerized database.
  • Assist patients with the completion of medical insurance forms.
  • Inform patients of the costs of care and guide them to appropriate resources for further information, guidance, or assistance.
  • Answer phones and provide routine information to callers.
  • Collect time of service payments.
  • Occasional coverage of other offsite JHH/JHU GYN/OB clinic locations remotely or by traveling to the location.
  • Must have transportation available.
  • Greets patients in a professional, friendly, courteous manner, and offers confidential assistance to ensure that the patient has a positive experience at the clinic.
  • Answers telephones, provides routine information to callers, and refers patients to appropriate resources per clinic policies and procedures.
  • Schedules appointments by phone or in person utilizing the electronic medical record (EMR); obtains, confirms and enters patient information including demographics, insurance information, and billing data; expedites pre-registration, check-in and check-out of all patients.
  • Coordinates and schedules follow-up care for patients including appointments, and other procedures as directed by providers.
  • Works with the healthcare team to ensure smooth and efficient patient flow and clinical operations.
  • Problem solves obstacles to throughput process and notifies manager and patients of wait times.
  • Maintains and updates confidential medical records by preparing, scanning and indexing medical records and other patient information (e.g., prescription refills, test results) from outside sources into the EMR.
  • Collects time of service payments, issues receipts, and prepares cash settlement records.
  • Performs various duties pertaining to opening and closing of the clinic, such as cash register reconciliation, shutting down computers, forwarding phones to on-call service, etc.
  • Monitors the in-basket in the electronic medical record system. Handles basic in-basket requests and forwards others as necessary to the appropriate resource.
  • Documents appropriately in the system.
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • One year work experience required in a similar service-oriented industry.
  • Additional education may be substituted for years of experience.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years college or equivalent work experience.
  • Two years related work experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical insurance coverage preferred.
  • Medical terminology and basic computer skills preferred.
