Facilities Superintendent

Department: Facilities Operations - Hickory Campus Support - 410800

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from a four-year college or university and two years of general facilities experience preferably with supervision; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be receives from appropriately accredited institutions. Essential Job Functions
  • This position must perform various administrative functions and duties in the Facilities work order system (AiM). This includes estimates, work orders, shop assignments, materials, billable hours and overall project status.
  • This position daily makes independent decisions regarding the direction, priority and scheduling of projects.
  • The Superintendent serves as the lead/point person for any inquiries/clarification or questions regarding projects.
  • This position routinely consults and seeks input from the campus administration in regards to projects providing all information necessary to assist in making an informed decision.
  • This position provides clear communications and manages all interactions in a professional and responsible manner with administrators, campus partners/departments and external contractors.
  • The methods of communication most commonly used in this position are in-person, telephone or electronic correspondence.
  • The Superintendent is responsible for all aspects of personnel management. This includes recruitment, hiring, training, promotion, performance evaluation, disciplinary actions, coaching, and career advancement of facilities employees. Ensuring that all Facilities employees adhere to University policies and procedures.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position
  • Knowledge of repair, maintenance and construction techniques and of the tools, methods, practices, materials and equipment used in the building and mechanical trades.
  • Technical knowledge of building codes, environmental rules and all other rules and regulations governing repair, maintenance and construction of facilities.
  • Ability to perform work in a variety of trades, to read schematics and blueprints, to sketch or draft technical drawings, and to estimate repair and construction projects.
  • Ability to train, direct and supervise employees and to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to make independent decisions and assess the potential impact to the University.
  • Must have the ability to operate University vehicles with a valid driver’s license.


Preferred Qualifications
Graduation from high school and six years of progressive technical and supervisory experience in facilities maintenance including three years of journey level experience in at least one building or mechanical trade; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Work Schedule/Hours: 7:00am - 4:00pm or 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. Schedule may vary due to work load, service activities and emergency call backs after normal working hours.
Anticipated Hiring Range: $55,450 - $62,301
