Job Summary

The Weatherhead Center for International Affairs facilitates the production of pathbreaking social science research on international, comparative, transnational, and global issues. Our community of scholars consists of over 400 affiliates from multiple social science disciplines and includes both Harvard faculty and students drawing from nine of Harvard’s schools as well as visitors to Harvard from all over the world. We house several dynamic research programs, initiatives, and clusters; host conferences, seminars, and workshops; and provide competitive fellowships to global scholars and research funding to Harvard faculty and students.

Basic Qualifications

Three or more years of experience in finance, accounting, or a related field. Higher education may count towards years of experience. Demonstrated experience with MS Outlook and Excel.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

Advanced level of Excel experience required. Experience with Oracle and or similar online financial systems preferred. Strong organizational skills, enthusiasm, attention to detail, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision are essential. Must have ability to handle complex and confidential information with discretion. Bachelor's degree strongly preferred. Experience with sponsored awards also appreciated.

Position Description

Under the direction of the director of finance and in collaboration with the financial administrator, provides financial support and serves as principal information resource to faculty associates, center staff, and other affiliates on complex fiscal policies and procedures. Downloads data using Harvard reporting tools to prepare both complex and ‘snapshot’ financial Excel reports for internal and external groups. Prepares, updates, and distributes monthly and ad hoc financial projection reports for programs, projects, faculty research awards, grants, sponsored funds, and specially-assigned projects. Maintains and updates our suite of grant program Excel spreadsheets. Contributes to the WCFIA Core report. Processes internal and external journals to the general ledger. Prepares, processes, and approves vendor payments, reimbursements, bank wires, and corporate card payments. Manages PCard review process. Conducts regular data reconciliation and makes necessary adjustments. Assists in temporary payroll process, including time entry and approvals. Other duties as required.

Work Format Details

This is a hybrid position that is based in Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
