Job Description:
The Department of Visual Art & Design (DOVAD) at Weber State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Art Education. Appointment begins July 1, 2024. We seek an individual with a robust engagement with current education pedagogy, an awareness of critical issues facing art education; and an interest in a variety of approaches to art and arts education. Starting annual salary competitive and commensurate with experience with a generous benefit package.

Job Duties:
The position includes an undergraduate teaching load of 3/2 (12/8 credit hours) with supervising student teachers in coordination with Weber State’s Moyes College of Education. Courses include: Art Methods and Resources for Secondary Teachers; general education classes; and courses that contribute to the department’s core curriculum. Additional responsibilities include: advising students; conducting required on-site teaching observations; and collaborating with the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Program for arts integration.

All Department faculty are expected to remain professionally active with creative and scholarly work, provide service to the University, the Lindquist College of Arts & Humanities, their discipline, and the greater community. A successful candidate will contribute in meaningful ways to the department, college, and university’s continuing commitment to optimize student success, so as to be able to respond productively to the learning needs of all students.

Required Qualifications:
  • A doctorate in Art Education or closely related field; an M.Ed. combined with an MFA; or an MFA. A recognized terminal degree must be completed by July 1, 2024.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in teaching and/or administration in secondary education, museum education programs, or the university level
  • Commitment to a range of teaching strategies and well-versed in contemporary issues and approaches to both art and art education
  • Experience with student mentoring and supervising students’ teaching performance

Physical Requirements of this position: Light work. Exerting up to 20 lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Use of arm and/or leg controls exerting forces greater than that for sedentary work.

Visual Acuity Requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision: Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading.
