TENURE TRACK FACULTY (Open Rank) - Social Work

Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor of Social Work

Stephen F. Austin State University, a member of The University of Texas System, invites applicants for a nine-month, tenure-track faculty position in the College of Liberal and Applied Arts, beginning August 2024. This position is one of three new faculty hires across the college that will form part of an interdisciplinary cohort of community-engaged scholars. Students in the college are increasingly from historically underrepresented social, cultural, and economic backgrounds. The search is a collaborative effort between social work, criminal justice, and sociology to bridge academic, student, and local populations. Candidates should demonstrate how their teaching, mentoring, research, and/or service engages underserved communities.

This is an open rank Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor position that will be housed in the School of Social Work. It is expected this position will primarily serve the new Doctorate in social work, but applicants should also be able to contribute to the MSW or BSW programs as assigned. The successful candidate will teach a range of courses, mentor and supervise graduate students, and conduct research in their area of expertise. The candidate must be familiar with CSWE accreditation standards and social work licensure requirements, including competency-based education principles related to implicit and explicit bias. The successful candidate will demonstrate the potential for teaching excellence, the ability to establish a scholarly research agenda, interest in service and shared governance, and a commitment to community outreach and engagement.

An MSW from a CSWE accredited program and DSW or PhD in social work is required at the time of appointment. Three years of post-MSW practical experience is required. Standard teaching load for this position is 3/3, with new hires receiving a reduced 2/2 course assignment during their first year. The college also provides startup, moving, and ongoing professional development funds for travel and research.
