Position Description Summary/Purpose :

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Finance, this position performs a variety of business, accounting, and financial functions related to the operation of Goodwin University and its subsidiaries. Reconciles bank statements, posts journal entries and prepares the monthly financial package. In addition, this position assists with the audit schedules for the annual audit.

Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities :

  • Reconciles multiple banks accounts and posts entries to record banking activities.
  • Reconciles Institutional Aid- Manual and Accounts Receivable- Manual accounts monthly.
  • Reconciles and books petty cash activities monthly.
  • Books student account activities to the general ledger.
  • Records prepaid tuition and unearned revenue monthly
  • Works with the Business Office in order to reconcile the cash-in-transit accounts monthly.
  • Post entries to record magnet school allocations.
  • Reconciles the intercompany accounts monthly.
  • Reconciles subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger monthly.
  • Maintains escheatment files including correspondence to students and files appropriate state forms.
  • Prepares monthly financial package including financial forecast.
  • Creates and sends out 1099 tax forms and files with the IRS and State by issued deadline.
  • Maintains the monthly loan statements and updates debt service file accordingly.
  • Completes and submits various annual town filings.
  • Assists and prepares various year-end audit schedules.
  • Posts weekly rent payments for rental properties and distributes reports to the Facilities Operations Administrator.
  • Occasionally assists with ad hoc work for management’s needs.
  • Conducts all work in a safe manner and all work safety practices are followed.
Other Functions :
  • Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
  • Continues professional development and training; keeps current with trends.
  • Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort.

  • Demonstrated commitment to developing and fostering best practices and policies to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, and build an environment in which all members of the University community are treated with respect and dignity.
  • Requires a working knowledge of consolidated financial statements.
  • Must have excellent time management, communication, decision-making, human relations and organizational skills.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task and work independently.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office with a focus on Excel, and accounting software.
  • Performs work within standard practices and procedures with review of progress or results by Assistant Director of Finance.
  • Must be comfortable working with a diverse team of talented individuals across multiple operating entities.
Minimum Required Qualifications :

Education, Training and Experience :
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or relevant business field of study required, with at least 3 years of relevant business experience strongly preferred.
Special Requirements :
  • Valid driver license and insured vehicle
