GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

 

The University of Guam is looking for an individual who is interested in new challenges and opportunities for professional and personal growth. UNIT DESCRIPTION:

 

The School of Education provides initial preparation and continuing education opportunities to aspiring teachers, and other professional personnel engaged in educational activities in Guam, the Western Pacific region, and the U.S. mainland. Education opportunities are accomplished primarily through classroom instruction and related practicum activities monitored and coordinated by teaching faculty members. An integral part of the School of Education’s mission is becoming the academic, research, and service resource center for Guam and the greater Micronesian areas. The School of Education is accredited by the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP).

 

CHARACTER OF DUTIES:

 

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate expertise and scholarly productivity in areas related to educational research, educational evaluation, or educational psychology; and to teach educational foundations courses (e.g., lifespan human development, educational psychology, evaluation, and methods of research) and other related areas. Additional duties will include continuous development and enhancement of both undergraduate and graduate curricula through assessment, applied research, and scholarly activity.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Minimum: Candidates must have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in education or related field from a U.S. regionally accredited institution or foreign equivalent with emphasis on educational foundations, evaluation, educational research, and educational psychology. Expected to demonstrate scholarly productivity in areas related to education foundations, educational research, educational psychology, and educational evaluation. Must be willing to teach undergraduate and graduate courses (in face-to-face and online formats), working with students from culturally diverse backgrounds.

 

Preferred: The following experiences will strengthen applications: licensure and additional teaching experience in K-12 school classrooms; teaching experience in higher education classrooms; and evidence of scholarly achievements and research. Experience working with online learning programs and leadership role in the school setting such as coordinator, administrator, supervision, or professional development. At least five years of classroom teaching experience in K-12 setting.

Police and Court Clearance: Pursuant to Public Law No. 28-24 and Executive Order 2005-34, applicants selected for a position are required to provide original police and court (Superior Court of Guam) clearances of no more than three (3) months old prior to commencement of employment. Off-island applicants must obtain clearances from their place of residence. Applicants are responsible for fees associated with obtaining the clearances.

Section 25103, Chapter 25, Title 10 of the Guam Code Annotated requires college or university employees to undergo a physical examination, to include a test for tuberculosis (skin or x-ray), prior to employment and at least annually thereafter. A report of such examination must be conducted by a licensed physician within a state or territory of the United States and must be submitted upon request.

 

Federal law requires presentation of eligibility to work in the United States within seventy-two (72) hours of reporting for employment. Specifically, 8 USC 1324A requires the employer to verify the identity and eligibility to work in the United States of all newly hired employees.
