Department Summary
The Center for the Prevention of Abuse and Neglect (CPAN) is a College of Education research and outreach unit. CPAN is dedicated to working with Oregon communities to better understand and support the safe, healthy, and nurturing environments of children and families, with a specific focus on preventing child abuse and neglect. CPAN's research informs culturally-specific prevention science, intervention, and policy efforts that build on community strengths. For more information go to cpan.uoregon.edu.

Position Summary
The Research Assistant/Community Engagement and Volunteer Coordinator will develop a volunteer management and evaluation strategy to support the implementation of CPAN interventions within the 90by30 child abuse prevention initiative. This position coordinates aspects of 90by30 implementation and research activities including: research; outreach/external engagement; student staff, intern, and volunteer supervision; record keeping; and other activities related to coordination. The Coordinator will track volunteer data, along with 90by30 leadership, to include: recruitment and training of volunteers, creation and delivery of professional development modules for volunteers, and construction of an ongoing volunteer appreciation effort.

The Research Assistant/Community Engagement and Volunteer Coordinator will work on grant-funded 90by30 strategies. This position will assist the 90by30 Director and Associate Director with meeting deliverables on grants/projects. The person in this position will coordinate with regional agencies, businesses, organizations, and other community resources to drive recruitment and retention of volunteer capital. The person in this position will use data to evaluate engagement and measure impact of programing.

The person in this position will be responsible for working with the CPAN Research team and will supervise student and non-student staff and interns, and volunteers. They will be responsible for communication within CPAN and with external organizations working to implement the interventions or participate in the studies. This position will work closely with co-chairs and coordinators of the 90by30 Regional Leadership Teams to implement a robust volunteer retention program to support the volunteer-driven 90by30 intervention strategies across Lane County.

The Research Assistant/Community Engagement and Volunteer Coordinator must be able to travel to locations throughout Lane County that are not serviced by public transportation.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, prevention science, program evaluation, or related field
  • Two years of experience in volunteer coordination
  • Two years of experience in development of training modules
  • Four years of experience in the implementation of local community engagement efforts with some project management experience

  • Ability to work independently at times with moderate supervision
  • Ability to work in team environment, requiring participatory decision-making
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, interns, volunteers, and community members from diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • High-level skills in Word and Excel

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading program evaluation efforts for a specific intervention or strategy
  • Bilingual and/or bi-cultural skills in Spanish and English
  • Experience with evaluation of volunteer efforts
