IT@JH Enterprise Business Solutions (EBS) is seeking a Sr. ERP Business Analyst who is responsible for the functional duties related to the implementation, maintenance, enhancement, break-fix, and integration of SAP and supporting Human Capital Management technologies. The focus will be mainly on Payroll and Time Management.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Works closely with HR Shared Services and HR business owners throughout the enterprise to deliver HR related technologies.
  • Completes production unplanned support items. The team works in an agile hybrid scrum environment. Analysts attend scrum meetings to update the internal team on project status. Analysts are responsible for assisting in planning and estimating of their project work and logging their time to the respective projects.

Specific Devices, Software, Projects

  • Uses SAP Payroll/Time Management Modules, Revtrac, Jira, Confluence and other HCM technologies used to complete HR Payroll/Time processes and policies. This position requires understanding of complex systems integrating and potentially being used differently between JHU and JHHS systems and groups.


Scale/size of Area, Project and/or System Supported

  • This position is on a team of approximately 17 HR/Payroll Functional Analysts supporting the Human Capital Management systems for Johns Hopkins Health System and Johns Hopkins University containing more than 50,000 employee records.

On-call Requirements

  • Available if P1 production support issue occurs, not regularly scheduled on-call work.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of system processes and configuration in SAP to support and lead problem identification and resolution.
  • Analytical abilities, critical thinking and problem-solving competencies to support non-standard, unique problem resolution.
  • Excellent team organizational and motivational skills to support a positive work environment under circumstances where time constraints for problem resolution are inflexible.
  • Negotiation skills to support compromise and alternative solutions in pursuit of customer satisfaction.
  • Communication liaison between HR business leaders and developers.
  • Deep application knowledge in at least one major process area, with working knowledge of applications in at least one other major process area.
  • Customer service skills – capable of participating in a dialog with users/customers, understand the nature of the request being made, provide timely feedback to the customer.
  • Request Tracking/Status Reporting skills - Detailed in tracking and reporting status of issues/maintenance requests/enhancement requests to users and management.
  • Teamwork - Ability to work as part of a team and with members of other functional/technical teams to identify action items, team member responsibilities, etc.
  • Independent Work - Ability to work independently on assignments, requesting assistance as needed, and proactively complete assignments independently.
  • Issue Severity/Independent Prioritization of Tasks – Capability of understanding severity of reported/observed issues and properly respond to issues based on severity
  • Computer skills - Ability to use software applications such as MS Word, MS Outlook, MS Excel, and other productivity and/or data manipulation tools to provide requested data, stage data for loading, etc.
  • System Modifications - Ability to understand possible impacts to changes to a highly integrated system, determine the depth/breadth of testing necessary to minimize risk of system changes, execute and record results of testing (including data staging), etc.
  • Project Management - Ability to function within a structured project management environment; ability to effectively plan and execute larger projects while also being able to execute tasks within the context of a more complex project plan. Ability to utilize project management software such as MS Project for planning and tracking purposes.
  • Ability to clearly write functional design specifications.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, MIS, Business Administration, or relevant functional area.
  • Five years' experience.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in configuring in SAP Payroll and Time Management modules.
  • Experience in leading projects, leading meetings with business representatives to discuss requirements, consult on system best practices, manage project expectations and deliver quality functionality.
  • Experience in other SAP or SuccessFactors Modules.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
