QUALIFICATIONS
Education Requirements
Formal training and a degree/s in your discipline are preferred; however, experts in a particular musical tradition or style, such as classical, country, jazz, rock, blues, bluegrass, etc., are also encouraged to apply and will be considered.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:
1-3 years of successful prior teaching experience in any style, including rock, folk, pop, classical, flamenco, etc. Experience and passion for working with people, including young children, adults, seniors, and community organizations. Ability to communicate ideas and concepts and demonstrate techniques to people of different ages, backgrounds, and experience levels. Positive attitude, excellent communication skills, openness to new ideas, self-starter attitude, and willingness to work with professionals in other disciplines. Must be willing to respond to emails from the Coordinator quickly. Must be willing to respond promptly to inquiries from students or their families. The ability to teach more than one discipline is a plus. Must be comfortable with email, social media outlets, and texting.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Harper College Community Music and Arts Center seeks a guitar instructor to provide instruction to children and adults in private and group settings. Instructors of electric, acoustic, or classical guitar are welcome to apply. This position starts in June 2024. The position is dependent on enrollment and may include evening and weekend work. Hours per week vary depending on the needs of the students. Priority is given to individuals who live within the district.
ABOUT THE TEAM
RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach weekly private and group guitar classes to non-credit adult students and children enrolled in the Community Music and Arts Center programs. The ability to teach other instruments, such as mandolin, ukulele, banjo, etc., is welcome. Organize and maintain a consistent teaching schedule. Communicate to parents and adult students regarding scheduling, progress, recitals, practice, and signing up for lessons. Prepare students for recitals, performances, and activities. Participate in recruitment activities in and outside of the division. Integrate technology into the delivery of instruction. Attend department and faculty meetings. Attend other meetings when requested. Be active on social media outlets for the purpose of promoting the program.
