Job Description:

As a member of the Student Success Team within the Department of Academic Affairs, the Director of COM Student Success (DoCSS) will work collaboratively with College and University teams to contribute to the success of students within the College of Osteopathic Medicine. The DoCSS will provide direction, oversight and management of efforts fostering the success of student doctors. The DoCSS will work individually with students and contribute to broader programmatic messaging and learning opportunities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Track and report student academic progress. Develop, facilitate and assess an early intervention program for students at academic risk

  • Develop and implement programs and initiatives to facilitate the personal and professional growth of COM students as they progress through the program

  • Maintain records of student academic status and communicate to students their requirements for successful academic progress

  • Maintain communication of student academic progress with other departments, as necessary

  • Serve at a variety of student-facing interfaces and advocate for a student-centered approach

  • Plan, organize and lead student events

  • Formulate remediation plans for course failures. Perform necessary functions for the tracking and management of remediating students

  • Maintain, manage and assess student learning resources

  • Ensure consistent adherence to policies, practices, and initiatives

  • Coordinate the ongoing assessment of academic policies and practices

  • Serve on committees as appointed by the Dean

  • Assess and communicate outcomes of student absence requests

  • Set the tone for a positive student culture and climate

  • Maintain a campus-wide commitment to tolerance, diversity and inclusion and avoidance of bias

  • Promote a culture of health and well-being among students

  • Communicate available resources to address student health and wellness

  • Candidates should have a Doctoral or terminal degree from an accredited institution and have successfully completed professional training or acquired equivalent experience in a clinical field commensurate with their assigned duties

  • The position requires excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse personnel and students

  • Essential skills include demonstrated ability to work effectively and efficiently in a team environment, computer literacy, and excellent communication (oral/written)

  • A Physician-Candidate must be eligible for specialty or sub-specialty board certification and available for clinical service as assigned by the University
