Job Details

The President reports to the UCC Board of Directors and is tasked with the development and implementation of the strategic direction and growth of the UCC.

The President will be responsible and accountable for the operations of the University including talent recruitment and human resource management, academic administration, research, internal quality assurance and institutional accreditation processes, student success, faculty morale, financial governance, fundraising and investment, facilities, marketing, and outreach to industry, government, and the community at large.

The President is expected to be an exceptional leader who is focused and results-oriented with a proven track record of profitable growth and expansion, while also building stronger relationships with all stakeholders including students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the community.


  • Knowledge of the higher education sector in Jamaica or the Caribbean is an asset.
  • Experience in PRIVATE for-profit higher education is preferable & an asset
  • Visionary leadership, transformative growth, and innovative management
  • Record of successful senior-level leadership in higher education administration
  • Significant business acumen with a proven track record of profitable growth and expansion
  • Strong academic and research background, preferably with peer-reviewed publications
  • Energetic, high capacity for hard work, and the ability to manage tight deadlines
  • Effective grant acquisition capabilities and success in institutional fundraising
  • Strong financial, budgeting, forecasting, and research data skills and experience
  • Demonstrated emotional intelligence and personal integrity

Candidates will have an earned doctoral degree with senior administrative experience (such as President, Deputy/Vice President, and Provost) at an accredited higher education institution with demonstrated personal integrity and ethical leadership, as well as a track record of leadership vision and innovation. A well-developed understanding of private university organizational culture and ethos is expected, as is the commitment to faculty, staff, and student success. Candidate competencies should include excellent fiscal, academic, administrative, and operations management, partnership development, and institutional advocacy. The full remuneration package for this post is approximately US$120,000 annually, including performance incentives, housing, access to a motor vehicle, pension plan, group life, health insurance, return airfare, and baggage allowance along with additional benefits.

The University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC), registered as a University College by the University Council of Jamaica, is Jamaica’s largest, fastest-growing, non-affiliated private institution of higher education, and is now one of five higher education entities with the accolade of institutional accreditation from the University Council of Jamaica. UCC is also institutionally accredited internationally by the UK-based Accreditation Service for Independent Colleges and Universities and is registered by the Jamaica Tertiary Education Commission, JTEC, the official GOJ regulatory body, as a Teaching University.

UCC is headquartered in Kingston, Jamaica, with five physical campuses and UCC Online. UCC was formed in 2004, as a result of a merger in 2002 of the Institute of Management Sciences, which was incorporated in 1992, and the Institute of Management and Production, which was incorporated in 1976. UCC offers a range of disciplines, from the professional certificate to the Doctoral level. The institution currently has approximately 5,000 students, and some 400 faculty and staff members, including part-time and full-time academic staff.
