Essential Functions

The National Counterterrorism Innovation, Technology, and Education Center ( NCITE ) seeks a Research Associate to support NCITE faculty on federally funded projects researching terrorism prevention and counterterrorism. The research associate will provide leadership and autonomy in development of specific tasks across an interdisciplinary team of research faculty.

This is a full-time position funded through a contract with DHS to develop measurement instruments for evaluating violence prevention programs. We are interested in an industrial and organizational psychologist or similar professional interested in applying principles of measure development and validation to provide novel solutions in this space. Responsibilities associated with this position will involve, but not be limited to:
  • conducting literature reviews related to best practices in relevant areas, such as program evaluation, measurement models, and targeted violence reduction;
  • leading meetings and briefings with key stakeholders inside and outside DHS ;
  • supervising undergraduate and graduate research assistants;
  • developing project artifacts, such as technical reports; and
  • participating in multi-disciplinary research in the NCITE Center.
A successful candidate will work with NCITE faculty and students to take a lead role in supporting and executing tasks including management of project deliverables, be productive in writing manuscripts and reports, and presenting research outcomes. The successful candidate will apply domain knowledge working collaboratively in support supplementary NCITE terrorism and counterterrorism research projects providing scientific reviews of non-assigned project outcomes.
Additionally, the Research Associate will be expected to participate in regular NCITE meetings, and support the annual NCITE conference, briefings, and other NCITE initiatives as needed. It is also expected that they will participate in annual embedding grants and internships with Homeland Security Enterprise ( HSE ) partners and other COE institutions. Thus, some travel may be required.

Additional Duties

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in I/O psychology, educational measurement, or similar field
  • 3-5 years of experience designing and executing quantitative and qualitative research plans;
  • domain knowledge related to measure development and validation;
  • ability to plan, organize and prioritize work and the work of others.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Individuals who are ABD or have a doctorate degree in I/O psychology educational measurement, or similar field
  • Showing strong oral presentation and facilitation skills to conduct regular meetings, interviews and workshops with senior federal leaders.
