The Department of Curriculum & Instruction is hiring a teaching specialist or lecturer position for the Science Education
program. This staff member will teach courses and provide leadership in secondary science teacher education and
provide support in elementary science education. This person will also serve as faculty adviser for students in the
Secondary Science M.Ed. program.

The individual hired will be appointed to a full‐time, 9‐month, annually‐renewable position as a Teaching Specialist or
Lecturer in Science Education during academic year 2024-25. This position will begin with the 2024-2025 academic year, with a start date of August 26, 2024. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Appointment renewal is contingent upon a successful performance review, continuing need for the position, and availability of funds.

Job Responsibilities
Teaching and Curriculum Development (70%)
● Teach 18 course credits per year (fall and spring semesters) dependent on credentials and expertise
● Oversee and administer courses and curriculum, assessment and updates for the secondary science M.Ed. and
science courses associated with the elementary M.Ed.
● Review and develop the current course materials and make adjustments to best meet the needs of the students
and meet state requirements

MEd Program Coordination and Advising (20%)
● Advise all incoming and current Science Education M.Ed. students
● Provide oversight for the Science Education M.Ed. degree and collaborate with department, college, and
University personnel on program and course development, marketing, student recruitment, admissions, and
program evaluation

● Work with department and college personnel to secure field experience placements (fall) and student teaching
placements (spring)
● Supervise and mentor field experience and student teaching supervisors
● Update related department, college, and university procedures and documentation for licensure and M.Ed.
degree completion
● Admit and advise additional licensure students in all five science licenses with the support of admissions adviser

Service and Outreach (10%)
● Lead marketing and promotion of the science education M.Ed. degree program, in collaboration with the
Marketing & Communications Manager
● Participate in department, college, university, and community service or other outreach activities, such as service
on internal committees or task forces and/or collaborating with external constituencies as well as in the activities
of relevant professional organizations
● Assist with science education program area needs including scheduling of courses, developing curricula, hiring
adjunct instructors, etc.

Required Qualifications
● An earned master’s in Science Education, or a closely related field is required for appointment as a Teaching
● An earned doctorate in Science Education, or a closely related field is required for appointment as a Lecturer.
● Evidence of attention to diverse identities in teaching or professional experience, and the commitment to
support the University’s work in diversity, equity, and inclusionEvidence of success working with secondary
science preservice and/or inservice teachers
● At least three years of teaching experience at the high school level, OR at least three years of teaching
experience at the middle school level with additional leadership experiences and extensive work with students at
the high school level

Preferred Qualifications
● Earned doctorate in Science Education, or closely related field
● Previous experience teaching and advising university students in a secondary science licensure program
● Previous experience teaching elementary science methods for university students in an elementary licensure
● Knowledge and experiences supporting students to complete the EdTPA assessment
● Evidence of experiences working with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and/or Minnesota state science standards
● Evidence of a commitment to technology integration in educational settings
● Evidence of leadership in science teacher education
● Evidence of success working with preservice and/or inservice elementary science teachers
● Previous experience working with university-school partnerships
