Position Description Summary/Purpose :

The Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) Program Director is responsible for all aspects of the program, including the administration, planning, continuous review, development, and general effectiveness of the program as well as all duties as defined for full-time faculty. Responsibilities also include meeting and maintaining program accreditation requirements, systematic review of program effectiveness among didactic, laboratory, and clinical components, student recruitment, and committee assignments.

Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities :

  • Plans, administers, manages, and evaluates the ADN Program and course offerings, in a teaching and learning environment that utilizes digital solutions for courses, textbooks, learning labs, tutoring, and other learning support services.
  • Functions as the instructional leader for the ADN Program in the development, assessment, and revision of curricula, program outcomes, and student learning outcomes in collaboration with faculty and community partners.
  • Interacts with community partners, local school districts and business and industry regarding to identify specific learning needs of students.
  • Works with the Executive Director, faculty and staff to resolve student issues and complaints in compliance with the policies and procedures of the University.
  • Conducts all work in a safe manner and all work safety practices are followed.
  • Demonstrates knowledge in the administration and development of the ADN Program designed to meet the needs of health care organizations and entrepreneurial activities and programs designed to meet the needs of adults and the business community.
  • Teaches minimum of 1 nursing course in the program
  • Other duties as assigned by the Chief Nurse Administrator
Other Functions :
  • Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
  • Continues professional development and training; keeps current with trends.
  • Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort.

  • All Program Directors must have education and relevant expertise within their specific discipline related to the program or specific courses they teach. Program Directors must also have knowledge of:
  • Academic administration
  • Curriculum development
  • Business planning
  • Management – communicating with and facilitating discussions among a diverse range of highly educated professionals across a variety of disciplines
  • Goal setting – setting reasonable, yet high targets, and creating a plan for attaining those targets
  • Planning – organizing and prioritizing the needs and goals of several programs and departments
  • Communication - Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; and effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Minimum Required Qualifications :
  • Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
  • Five years (5) of varied nursing experience since graduation from a professional nursing education program
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Teaching and administrative experience in a college setting.
  • Five years of nursing experience in supervision or teaching.
  • Doctoral degree or in progress
