QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications: Formal training and successful prior teaching experience with children are required. Experience and passion for working with children in various age groups. Ability to communicate ideas and concepts and demonstrate playing techniques to students of different ages, backgrounds, and experience levels. Must have a solid commitment to teaching and a genuine interest in the life-long musical development of students. Must be responsive to inquiries about programming and offerings and willing to call families to follow up, answer questions, and arrange for lessons. Must be quick to respond to emails from the Coordinator. Must have a positive attitude, excellent communication skills, high standards for quality, and good judgment. The ability to teach other instruments is a plus. The ability to accompany the students on piano or guitar is a plus.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Harper College Community Music and Arts Center seeks to hire a voice instructor to provide instruction during the summer as part of the InZone summer camp we offer here at Harper. Summer classes take place during the day, and each course lasts two weeks, with meetings Monday through Friday. Classes are offered throughout the summer, starting June 10 and ending August 9. This position is expected to begin during the Summer of 2024. These courses rely on enrolment and are subject to cancelation.

ABOUT THE TEAM

The Career and Technical Programs provide programs of study that involve a multiyear sequence of courses that integrate core academic knowledge with technical and occupational knowledge to provide students with a pathway to postsecondary education and careers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Teach group voice children classes in a summer camp environment.

Organize and maintain a consistent teaching schedule.

Reach out to parents or students to arrange for lessons when needed.

Prepare lesson plans.

Prepare students for performances at the end of each course and attend recitals.

Integrate technology into the delivery of instruction when needed.

Coordinate curricular activities, textbook selection, and teaching materials with the Community Music and Arts Coordinator.
