The College of Business & Public Administration (CBA) is a fully accredited College of Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO).  The College provides education and degrees in Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, and Public Administration that equip a predominantly urban student body, including those from the New Orleans Metropolitan area, with cutting-edge knowledge, professional and research skills, and ethical decision-making abilities essential for successful careers in business, entrepreneurship, industry, education, government, and for further studies at graduate and professional levels. The College supports and promotes research and intellectual contributions aimed at improving teaching, entrepreneurial opportunities in the region, and awareness of global issues.

The Office of Student Services is a unit within the College that advocates for its students.  As such, the Director of Student Services oversees the overall academic experience of CBA students to make certain they remain on track in their curricula.  The Director and staff work with students to set reasonable educational and career goals.  Subsequently, the Student Services staff meet individually with students to develop a plan/path towards graduation and successful careers.

Essential functions

  1. Works closely with appropriate AACSB and SACS subcommittees to develop effective plans for meeting CBA student needs.  Maintains accurate records and write comprehensive reports on CBA student development/learning achievements in response to AACSB and SACS requirements and standards.
  2. Represent and document CBA accomplishments in initiatives and programs related to Enrollment Management. Initiate and implement activities required to meet CBA benchmarks on student retention and graduation.  Assists faculty in the development of recruitment materials.
  3. Develop informative orientation programs for incoming CBA majors and transfer students.
  4. Maintains a comprehensive database of all CBA majors, to include CBA alumni.  Review and update student files as needed.
  5. Work with CBA faculty in assisting current and incoming CBA students with career advice and counseling, advisement, course selection, registration and withdrawals.  Prepares course substitutions. 
  6. Review all CBA student applications for graduation and forward recommendations to Department Chair and Dean.
  7. Assist and support CBA faculty providing a robust student enrichment environment through student organizations, out-of-classroom experiences and field trips, professional development and etiquette seminars, and online and on-campus activities. Organize networking events
  8. Assist the CBA Business Advisory Board with activities and initiatives.
  9. Develop a comprehensive digital and hard copy database of CBA alumni (including name, address, phone, email, major, year of graduation, current professional affiliation, etc.) to enhance communication with them.
  10. Publish newsletters and other communications to highlight CBA students and alumni.
  11. Collaborate with CBA faculty and staff in preparing and submitting grants & proposals to secure funds to support CBA scholarships, events, and initiatives.
  12. All other duties as assigned.


  • Knowledgeable of AACSB and SACS accreditation standards related to student services.
  • Ability to become acquainted with the requirements for the four CBA undergraduate & graduate degree programs. 
  • Ability to conduct degree audits for native and new transfer students.
  • Knowledge of data generation, database management, and preparation of reports for accreditation agencies and governing boards. 
  • Ability to write funding proposals and manage grant awards.
  • Knowledge of higher education principles, practices and procedures required.
  • Knowledge of the tenets of diversity, equity, and inclusion work and social justice education and the ability to appropriately and effectively understand and adapt to cultural differences within a group environment.
  • Highly developed skills and experience with planning, coordinating, and facilitating projects/programs.
  • Ability to collaborate with academic departments and University partners required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing required.
  • Ability to work effectively with professional, classified, and student personnel required.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of students required.
  • Familiarity with FERPA regulations and matters of confidentiality.

Required education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Three or more years of experience in college-level recruitment, course registration, retention, graduation, and career placement management.
  • Experience as an advocate, mentor, and advisor to at-risk/nontraditional students.
  • Experience in organizing field trips, professional development events, and internships for students.
  • Experience working with tenured professors and adjunct instructors.
  • Ability to coordinate and reconcile class schedules from multiple departments and disciplines.

Preferred education and experience

  • Master’s degree or higher preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the Ellucian BANNER Database system and CANVAS Learning Management System (LMS) highly preferred.
