Position Summary: The Department of Biology seeks a broadly trained biologist who identifies as a teacher-scholar with demonstrated excellence in innovative undergraduate teaching and mentoring. This position is a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology beginning August 2024. The successful candidate will contribute to curricular design and assessment, teach undergraduate courses, advise and mentor undergraduate students, be team-oriented, and foster an inclusive and equitable classroom and work environment. Priority will be given to applications submitted on or before February 19, 2024.


● Teaching responsibilities include an introductory cellular biology course, a 200-level genetics course, and the potential to teach an upper-level in the candidate’s expertise area or one of the upper-level offerings in the biochemistry and biology major.

● Teaching load consists of a 4/4 schedule, or 12 hours a semester.

● An active research and scholarship development agenda with undergraduate students,

including participation in regional, national, or international conferences, and occasional

publications within the discipline.

● Curriculum development and assessment.

● Committee work as assigned by Faculty Governance Structure, and departmental service.

● Mentoring and advising to a diverse population of students.

● Use of best practices in implementing student-centered and evidence-based teaching practices such as active learning or course undergraduate research experiences.

● Other responsibilities include professional and university service.

● Regular, predictable attendance on campus.

● Alignment with the University's mission, vision, and strategic roadmap.

● Other job duties/responsibilities may be assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

● A commitment to serving diverse, first-generation, non-traditional, and socio-economically challenged students

● A willingness to work individually and in groups to support success in application to, matriculation, and persistence in the program

Education and Experience:

• Ph.D. in Biology emphasizing genetics, genomics, computational biology, immunology, or developmental biology.

• Teaching experience, especially university-level research methods, preferred.

• Experience developing and/or executing a CUREs course is preferred.
