    Job Summary
  • The Graphic Designer uses design software to develop contemporary designs that meet the needs of various target audiences including prospective students, transfer students, graduate students, special programs, and donors. This position works closely with Coordinator of University Publications and Director to receive projects and coordinate production. This position maintains effective communication with clients to take project from concept to completion.

Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks
  • Work on a wide range of projects and media, using various computer software to visualize and develop innovative graphic designs that meet university goals.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional departments and other internal stakeholders to achieve goals and current strategic design initiatives, and unite the visual style consistency to deliver creative, valuable designs that align with university and brand standards.
  • Collect critiques from the art director and other internal stakeholders and revise changes to design work based on appropriate feedback.
  • Coordinates with outside agencies, art services, printers, etc., to complete projects.
  • Be detail-focused, highly organized, and prioritize multiple and complex tasks by successfully prioritizing assignments individually or collaborating across teams under pressure and competing interests.
  • Occasionally, regular work hours may fluctuate to meet deadlines or special events.
  • All other responsibilities as assigned.

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, art, public relations or related field or comparable experience.
  • Two (2) years of experience in graphic design, publishing, or marketing.

Preferred Education/Experience
  • Competency with AP Style.
  • Knowledge of project management software.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to generate a creative ability with the design team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with diverse individuals at all organizational levels, both inside and outside the University.
  • Computer skills in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Bridge and Acrobat, and Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to keep up with trends in graphic design and web technologies.
  • Strong technical skills to learn enterprise systems and departmental tools.
  • Strong attention to detail to develop and improve design and projects.
  • Strong commitment to customer service and teamwork.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and use tact and diplomacy.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
