Position Description

The Department of Fine Arts of Perimeter College invites applications for an Open Rank Tenure-Track position in Art Foundations/Studio Art. This position offers a dynamic opportunity for an emerging scholar and dedicated educator to join our vibrant community of artists and scholars. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence, scholarly engagement, and service to the department and institution. Perimeter College requires and supports innovation and professional growth, expecting the successful candidate to engage in professional development activities which demonstrate career goals that are consistent with the college’s mission.

Provide 27-32 semester hours of instruction per academic year. Play a vital role in shaping the artistic development of our students. The primary responsibilities will include designing and delivering engaging and innovative curriculum in various studio art disciplines such as drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, and digital media. Guide students through technical skill-building, conceptual exploration, and critical thinking, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to actively participate in departmental meetings, collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, advise and mentor students, and contribute to the broader academic community through scholarship and service activities. The successful candidate’s expertise and passion for art will inspire and empower Perimeter College students to reach their full creative potential. As Perimeter College is a multi-campus college, the successful candidate may teach on multiple campuses and in multiple modalities each semester.

Required Experience

Required Education

A minimum of a Masters of Fine Arts ( MFA ) terminal degree in Art in a studio art specialty (completed by the anticipated date of appointment) from an accredited institution is required.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

• A strong background in Studio Foundations courses including Drawing, 2-D, 3-D, sculpture, painting, and a demonstrated history of community-engaged practice, along with a commitment to conceptualize and explore beyond conventional studio practices.
• A minimum of three years college level teaching experience beyond graduate work preferred.
• Knowledge and interest in online instruction.
• A strong commitment to student success and development

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to teach foundations of studio art at the collegiate level.
• Ability to teach effectively using a variety of methods, relate to students, and facilitate student learning, and support traditional and contemporary art methods.
• Effective communication skills needed.
• Excellent organizational and teaching skills a necessity.
• Demonstrated knowledge of instructional technology is required.
