The USC Career Center is seeking a Mentorship and Alumni Engagement Coordinator to cultivate and enrich mentorship and engagement opportunities to students.  Through different on-campus collaborations with the Alumni Association, Division of Student Affairs, USC International Offices, and school-based career services offices, this role will develop and oversee groups and programs within the Trojan Network.  This position will maintain the Trojan Network’s platform and increase peer and alumni connections for students to cultivate relationships in addition to increasing internship and career opportunities for Trojans.  The incumbent will work with Career Center staff and university partners to provide responsive, customized programming and serve as the liaison among faculty, students, staff, and employers.  This role will report to the Associate Director of Internship Engagement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and engage all members of the Trojan Network
  • Establish and enhance all communication with prospective and current users (students and alumni) on the virtual platform and mobile app
  • Provide leadership in the creation and execution of Trojan Network campus groups and mentorship programs based on different campus populations
  • Implement weekly content for the platform’s Discussion Board and digital resources
  • Plan and conduct workshops and videos to advise students and hub partners about the platform’s features
  • Oversee the Trojans Hiring Trojans campaign to increase internships and post-graduation career opportunities shared by alumni
  • Collaborate with Advancement to engage with donors, including parents, to increase employment opportunities for our students
  • Conduct internship development and coordination (alumni and employer relations) and advise students on internship opportunities (student/academic department relations)
  • Provide leadership and direction in the areas of educational choices, career planning and development, and employment strategies for students
  • Facilitate student learning by assisting students to secure appropriate internships to enhance overall academic experience and learn skills essential to conduct a successful job search.
  • Initiate and build partnerships with employers to develop student opportunities for experiential endeavors locally, state-wide, nationally and internationally.
  • Work alongside faculty and academic departments to identify and promote internships for specific majors.
  • Provide optimal marketing strategies to connect students to internship opportunities and jobs.
  • Develop a mentorship manual and promotional material.
  • Create and assess the effectiveness of mentorship groups and programming by researching appropriate guides to support the programs.
  • Maintain database administration and reports for purposes of tracking activity through the PeopleGrove platform.
  • Provide technical support and training to administrative and student users
  • Advocate for campus-wide mentorship strategies.
  • Advocate for a significant pool of endowed funding to ensure mentorship and internship opportunities accessible to all USC students.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

Note: This position includes some travel and work during evenings and weekends.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Higher Education Administration, Human Resources, or related fields strongly preferred for an understanding of academic culture
  • Two years of experience in counseling and career services
  • Familiarity with corporate and nonprofit human resource management
  • Understanding of advancement, advising, and career services
  • Proven experience working with faculty, academic advisors, staff, students, parents, and employers
  • Understanding of career development and advancement best practices
  • Understanding of relationship between Student Affairs and Academic Affairs and has a strong command of how to build bridges
  • Multicultural competencies; ability to work with diverse populations
  • Skilled in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, and the actions to improve performance
  • Skilled in communicating effectively and professionally using tact and diplomacy and the ability to work effectively as an individual, a team member, and with diverse groups
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tight deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer and database management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, time management, project management, and related skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of PeopleGrove or other mentorship/networking software
  • Strong customer service skills and an ability to listen effectively
  • Ability to research and quickly develop knowledge of employer recruiting strategies, job market trends, occupational, career, and personal growth
  • Ability to respect confidentiality and ethical boundaries with regard to student and alumni information along with internship guidelines, supervision, and professional consultation

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree Minimum Experience: 3 years Minimum Field of Expertise: Bachelor’s degree in counseling, higher education, human resources, or related field. Three years’ experience in career services, human resources, recruiting, or related industries, with some experience in a coaching or leadership role. Ability to manage, balance, and prioritize different tasks and projects. In-depth knowledge of federal immigration employment regulations and processes, interpreting and providing guidance as to their pertinence to international students. Advanced knowledge of employer recruiting strategies, job market trends, and occupational, career, and employment information sources. Superior level of professionalism, exceptional attention to detail, and exemplary written and oral communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated experience interacting with diverse groups, exercising diplomacy, good judgment, and discretion.
