Located in Richmond, Kentucky, EKU has a distinguished record of more than a century of educational service to the Commonwealth. Eastern Kentucky University is committed to access, equal opportunity, dignity, respect, and inclusion for all people, as integral to a learning environment. Through public service, consultation, continuing education, and the extended campus, the University seeks to serve the community and the regional service area. Faculty and institutional research not only advances knowledge in the subject matter areas with which the University is concerned but also supports the primary function of teaching.

The Department of Parks, Recreation, Exercise and Sport Science is a multidisciplinary department consisting of undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the fields of Exercise and Sport Science, Recreation and Park Administration, and Sports Management. The BS in Exercise and Sport Science is divided into concentrations focusing on pre-professional healthcare, including Pre-Athletic Training and Pre-Physical Therapy, as well as Physical Fitness and Wellness Management. Graduates of PRESS degree programs are prepared through didactic, laboratory and experiential learning with a heavy emphasis on servant leadership that uniquely distinguishes them in future professional pursuits.

The department is housed in the College of Health Sciences allowing for inter-professional collaborations with nursing, occupational therapy, health services administration, public health, medical lab sciences and other health-related students and faculty.

Job Summary/Basic Functions

Faculty member will serve in the dynamic Department of Parks, Recreation, Exercise and Sport Science. Primary teaching responsibilities will be within the department's pre-professional concentrations in the BS in Exercise and Sport Science as well as some graduate course instruction within the department. Course assignment will be determined by department administration (chair and/or associate chair) in consideration of professional content expertise and will consist of a 4/4 load (12 credits each semester).

Faculty is expected to contribute to the departmental, college and institutional mission in the areas of teaching, scholarship and service. The department emphasizes the application of knowledge and skills across multiple populations, specifically including tactical populations. Tactical settings include law enforcement officers, fire, and rescue along with military and special operations. This strategic emphasis strongly compliments EKU's mission and initiatives in supporting veterans and first responders and builds on already established action within the department.
