The Opportunity:

Embry-Riddle is now hiring a Director of Fitness and Wellness at the Daytona Beach campus. The Director of Fitness and Wellness supports the vision of a university culture of wellness through a focus on development and integration of wellness-related programming throughout the department, division, and University. Immediate responsibilities include the development and administration of strategic plans, budgets, and assessment projects as well as facility operational management. This position oversees all fitness, aquatics, climbing, and outdoor adventure related programs as well as student employee training and development in each of the four arenas, with direct supervision of three professional staff members.

This position has oversight of a 32,000 sq ft. Fitness Complex, including a 9,000 sq ft. year-round outdoor pool, and surrounding green recreational spaces. It requires substantial planning, programming, and oversight of a half-million-dollar operating budget. More information about the Eagle Fitness Center is available at .

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Development and administration of department strategic plans, budgets, and assessment projects. Secure alternative funding as required. Regularly analyze the use of financial resources, including student and instructor wages for best uses. Reach targeted revenues through programming and personal training.
  • Maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive environment in all programs and facilities. Annually review and update policies and procedures to maintain accuracy and follow best practices.
  • Continually evaluate and assesses the quality, impact and outcomes of programs and other offerings. Analyze utilization and participation trends; adjust programming and outreach efforts accordingly.
  • Coordinate departmental and campus-wide marketing and communication of programs and campaigns.
Fitness, Aquatics, and Outdoor staffing and operations
  • Manage fitness, climbing, and outdoor equipment inventory; responsible for strategic equipment replacement schedule, prioritizing equipment needs in accordance with needs and trends as recommended by professional staff.
  • Serve as a Building Liaison under the guidance of Campus Safety. Responsible for developing and regularly revising policies and procedures regarding risk management and emergency action plans for each of the three domains.
  • Oversee student employee recruitment, hiring, training, certification acquisition and documentation, as well as terminations in a wide variety of positions (personal trainers, group fitness instructors, welcome desk attendants, lifeguards, climbing instructors, trip leaders, etc.)
  • Oversee special events and programming in each of the domains.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in Student Affairs, as well as across other University departments to provide quality recreational, wellness, and developmental experiences for students and employees.
  • Serve on institutional committees and work groups as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Health Promotion, Recreation Management, or related field.
  • Current CPR and AED.
  • Current group fitness and/or personal training nationally recognized certification.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of related work experience, including demonstrated progression of skills and advancement.
  • Demonstrated team-building and management skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Effective decision making and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and data analysis.
