Job Description:

Kansas City University College of Dental Medicine seeks a Community Oral Health Coordinator as full-time staff. Reporting to the Director of Community Based Education and Outreach (DCBE), the qualified RDH facilitates the development and implementation of community-based education networks and outreach activities. Community outreach activities will be identified based on the community needs and will include partnerships with various community organizations. This individual will assist the DCBE in the development and implementation of partnerships with community organizations. This role will involve facilitating interprofessional activities and outreach initiatives that support KCU’s emphasis on population health. This role will include performance of clinical dental hygiene procedures in the Oral Health Center and in the community setting, managing general administrative duties, and maintenance and support of clinical faculty and dental students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Practices clinical dental hygiene according to the Missouri Dental Practice Act
  • Participates in maintenance of patient safety and quality assurance measures
  • Serves as educator and mentor to students
  • Delivers all levels of clinical instruction and supervision for pre-doctoral students
  • Teaches, oversees, and assesses students in the clinical and community settings
  • Coordinates and maintains patient flow through the oral health screening process
  • Educates patients, parents, guardians and school personnel on various oral health topics
  • Conducts and supervises oral health screenings and delivers screening results
  • Participates in the advancement of the Score 1 for Health Program and other oral health community outreach programs
  • Ensures adherence to all regulatory governance, universal precautions, and/or standard protocols
  • Makes certain safety protocols are followed and are consistent with federal regulations
  • Participates in committees with representatives of key areas of personnel, stakeholders, and partners.
  • Researches, develops, and implements creative approaches for outreach, promotion, engagement, and retention of partners
  • Assists with planning, scheduling, coordination, and promotion of events and activities internally and externally
  • Execute Interprofessional Education and Practice activities.
  • Identifies potential project ideas, partners, and affiliations that will benefit and support the College, University, and community
  • Other duties assigned by the Director of Community Based Education and Outreach
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene
  • Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) licensure in the state of Missouri that includes permits for infiltration and block anesthesia as a registered dental hygienist by the Missouri Dental Board
  • One-year experience as an RDH in a pediatric and/or community health clinical environment preferred
  • Experience in research and educational programs preferred
  • Knowledge and experience working with community organizations with missions to serve the public
  • Must be knowledgeable and skillful in age-appropriate health promotion, guidance, and primary care skills
  • Ability to decipher and interpret information and respond effectively and appropriately
  • Ability to adapt to different health literacy levels when interacting with a variety of individuals
  • Ability to interact professionally and appropriately with patients, parents, and school/program administrators
  • Ability to function as a team leader to effectively oversee screenings [instructions, training, charting, etc.]
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite required; experience with software for learning management systems and project management preferred
